Is Taekwondo a ART or a SPORT
Posted On 07/02/2008 03:21:32

As we all know there are thousands of TKD practioners around the world. But my feeling is majority of them are practising TKD as a sport; like cricket or foot ball.
Of course taekwondo has several specialized paths like Sport, Demonstration and Art.
We call it a martial ART .
What is an art.? Whats the difference between Artist and a sportsman.

Im not talking about sportsman, every one has an understand about it.He practises hard, compeat ,enjoy the winning or loss.

But if you are learning an art it should give something more, something to your life, a vision ,or an understanding, some deep peace to your mind....Can a person gain these this through practising TaekwonDo.

Here im not talking about the feeling of relaxation that you feel after engaging in a tough exercising. This can gain through any sport.

Just look at the majority of dedicated TKD practitionrs and their carrier. They practice to fight in the ring and when they reach the age of 35 or 40 they give up practising OR move in to a coaching field. They dont practise any more.

OK, I have lot to say but little lazy to write. So I summerize.

If you practise Taekwondo to become a champion or only for competition you will be unable to remain in Taekwondo for your lifetime.

Look for something different,Some spirituality
Have you try to gain it through Practising Martial Art.How a man can become calm, peaceful and devolop spirituality through practising to KILL another man.
What is the difference between boxing and Taekwondo
What and Where is the philosophy of Martialart?
