Frustrated and a little upset
Posted On 08/27/2008 20:59:42
OK guys some advice here please....

Ive been at green belt level now for 5 months. I train 3 times a week.
and my master hasnt asked me to grade again this time. He grades once a month, so that means another month to go at least. Whats worse is I know hes testing someone who got their green a month after me. Im now thinking Im doing really bad at something and noones telling me about it. Any ideas what could be the problem? I know its not ettiquitte to ask why Im not invited to grade, but would it be OK to ask what I need to work on, or would that also be disrespectful?

Thanks for any advice

UPDATE : I talked to my master and asked in a respectful way if there were any areas I really need to work on to progress my training. He asked if I wanted to test and I said I would like to if he thought I was ready. So I tested on Thursday and I passed. I am so pleased that I spoke to him now.

Thanks to everyone for the advice

Second Tournament
Posted On 06/30/2008 20:34:28
Well I participated in my second tournament this weekend. I seemed to cope a lot better than the first, knew what to expect and how to handle things. I also got a few compliments, which made me smile :-)
I counldnt help thinking, while watching my boys compete, how far would I be in training if Id found TKD sooner? But its best not to dwell on the ifs and buts, and to carry on from where you already are :-)
We all had a great time at the tournament and the party afterwards, roll on the next tournament :-) I'll be ready :-)

Upset and Lost Focus
Posted On 05/15/2008 11:01:09
Was in class on Tuesday evening and when we went for a water break half way through the class my two boys were whining and carring on at me (unusual but very irritating) when I got back into class I found there was no way I could focus on technique and when we did patterns I was a complete mess and forgot everything. I was embarrassed because lately my focus has been good and we have a tournament coming up, so I wanted to be good on as much as possible.
I left the dojang upset and disappointed, and as a positive person thats bad for me. I have a class tonight and I hope I can get my focus back.

Wish me luck!!

Sparring Seminar
Posted On 04/30/2008 10:06:40
At the weekend my school hosted a seminar on sparring (for adults). I attended and so did some of the other local clubs. It was good to meet and spar with, people from other clubs (can you tell Ive never been to a tournament before?)  I really enjoyed the experience and want to go to a tournament now !!

Test Result

I am proud to say that I was presented with my green belt on Saturday in class.

I know that I have a lot to learn and that training will get more technical for me now, but Im looking forward to learning new and more advanced techniques, I only hope my brain (and body) can keep up :-)

Thanks everybody for your support before and after the testing

Test tomorrow
Posted On 04/04/2008 18:49:34
Its test day tomorrow. I think Im as ready as Im going to be, just doing some last minute revision on names of movements in my pattern in case Im quizzed.
I know the meanings and background of the patterns, so its just movements and what theyre used for that Im weakest on. So thats what Ill be checking out tonight.

My push ups are as good as theyre going to be.....so wish me luck :-)

UPDATE - Tested on Saturday, It seemed to go well, I should find out if Ive passed on Thursday. Keeping my fingers crossed...

Grading for Green Belt :-)
Posted On 03/21/2008 15:17:39

I have been given a date for my green belt grading...

5th April...Im really determined to do well. The only thiing Im worried about is push ups. I know that sounds really strange, but part of the test is doing a number of push ups and my arms are a bit weak :-(
Since I have 2 weeks to work on this, can anyone recommend some exercises that may give me some more strength in the short term?
Im going to do more push ups every day ( I do 20 each morning at the moment, its all I have time for), which will help, but I dont want to embarrass myself (or my master) during the test...

The Boys are Testing
Posted On 02/29/2008 20:45:25
The master told both of my boys they can test on Saturday. He was very complimentary about Sams behavior and the fact that his concentration has improved.

Sam is testing for his green belt and Jack is testing for his yellow stripe.

I'm so proud of them...I'm sure theyll do well as long as they dont get too nervous.
