The nights are lighter later, so when I'm not working in the evening I'm off out the door, dragging Mollie with me for a jog around the village.
I wasn't built to run (a little too top and bottom heavy!!). So have woken this morning a little achy (might just be because I'm over thirty now and not just because of said large bottom!!)
Is it just me who has hard time jogging outside, because on a treadmill I can run for what seems like an age, but once I'm out in the elements its a different matter, the fresh air down my lungs, the rough terrain, I don't last long at all.
Oh well, I will persevere, I will not give up. I'm hoping that come next week (probably the week after) I will be able to run the course twice over before getting wheezy and tomato like in the face!!!
I have taken up running over the past 2 months and my fitness levels have gone through the roof (and i've lost almost 12lb). I started running outdoors 0.5 miles first but now i am up to 3 miles. You right about running indoors. Its much easier due to the humidity and temperature of the air and warmer, wetter air helps you breathe easier. I have now joined a gym and current my workout plan is, in this order, 2000m row, 15 minutes on the cross trainer, 22 minute run (3 miles) then 5 minutes on the hand bike. I am starting weight training, both fixed and free, on tuesday.
Good luck and keep it up, it doesnt take long and my TKD has already improved greatly as its now not my fitness that holds me back!
people at the gym know what to do if they see me running. stop me from doing so, because they know that i would never run on my own will, so if i'm running, chances are, i'm probably drunk or being chased by an imaginary ghost.
Two really good things stand out here. One is to run so slowly people make fun of you. Typically people run too fast and you aren't training pure aerobic, but a mixture of aerobic and anaerobic. The gains will be bigger to stay slower -- it keeps your heart-rate at the optimum for training aerobic. Another comment was that it's hard to just run for the sake of running. Running is a great mental training tool for me as well as aerobic. Also, running outside has much greater benefits than inside on a treadmill. I don't remember the scientific article to link to it, but people have studied it.
Keep it up! You'll be surprised at how quickly the day will come when you don't wake up sore.
Wow....youre doing really well :-) Its only just starting to warm up here in Ottawa, so people who are not hardened runners are starting to run again. Im a little like taekatdo in that I find it hard to run, just because... But think it would help in my stamina for sparring, so you may have just inspired me to start :-) I could drag the kids out with me....I can hear the groans now...do we have to???
Keep it up! I once heard a bio-chemist/exercise pysiologist say that you should "run so slowly, that people make fun of you" when you first start a running routine. I did that & it helped me a lot.
I've tried running a few times but I just can't stand it. I don't mind running when playing sports (like basketball), but running just because just doesn't work for me. So good job on actually doing it!
