Filipino Kali
Posted On 01/04/2009 18:28:34

TKD is my life, have practiced it for many years, but I have also trained for the past 4 years intermittently in Filipino Kali.

I enjoy being a student and the class gives me an appreciation for other martial arts, especially those which tach weapons.  Because the class is informal, there are no belt ranks, or other indications of rank-everyone can who has more experience or skills.  The instructor is deadly serious about his training and art, but he has a relaxed manner of teaching which is also refreshing.

Poomsae Seminar with GM Park
Posted On 10/18/2008 12:41:43
My students and I had the distinct honor and privilege of hosting GM PARK, Hae
Man for a Poomsae Seminar on Tuesday, 10/14.

GM Park started the Seminar off with a review of Kibons 1-3. He then lectured
on stances and weight distribution.

We then started off and performed the entire Taeguek series with GM Park taking
us through each poomsae by the count and then at our own pace. He would point
out areas which we needed to concentrate on in each poomsae.

GM Park's seminar was fast-paced. We took only 1 short break at the 1.5 hour
mark and GM Park kept cajoling us to work harder, to focus more intently, and to
be our best. He was instructive in his lecture style, humorous in his
demonstrations, and patient while we tried to perform each motion with proper
stance, balance, weight distribution, speed, focus, and timing.

We were honored in having some special guests who joined us for the Seminar. GM
Ronald Rose, one of GM Park's senior students, participated and helped correct
students. Master Steven Shinn from Okomos, MI came, trained, and helped translate. Master Nathan
Doggett from Grand Rapids brought several of his black belts. It was wonderful
spending the evening training with these fine instructors.

At the end of the seminar, GM Park patiently posed with students for pictures
and presented several of my black belts with their Chung Do Kwan certificates.

Non-TKD moment=The Who Tribute
Posted On 07/17/2008 20:46:59
I have 2 great kids, but it is still a little disconcerting when I am sitting watching VH1's tribute to The Who with my 15 yr old daughter.  What is most interesting is that she knows the lyrics to nearly all the greatest hits of The Who.   I guess classic music will draw lots of interest from all ages, but it still feels a little weird, but in a good way.....

1st day of USA TKD Senior Nationals
Posted On 07/01/2008 19:00:34
Helped as a volunteer at the first day of the USAT Sr. Nationals.  I had the chance to help organize other volunteers, to do a little security work, and to operate the computer at a ring.  It was a great day and we were done earlier than I expected.  Tomorrow will be a longer day...hope I spend most of it at the computer since it is really the best seat in the house.

hamstring pull
Posted On 06/24/2008 19:40:15

Don't know if it is me getting old or what, but for the second time in about 2 months, I've pulled my right hammy.  In both instances, I was warmed up and already sweating pretty good.  I usually train along with my students but this thing caused me such pain that all I could do is bark commands.

I got home, showered, and have an icepack on the darn thing.  I took a few ibuprofen, and need to massage and gently stretch it.

I have a friend who trains with me daily at lunch and he is a bit (8 yrs) older.  He likes to say "aging is not for sissies."  :)
