Its been a few weeks since my last blog entry so i thought i would just give an update on all the things that has happened recently. A few weeks ago Master Oldham VIII came and taught the coloured belt classes again which was a great honour. He was originally one of the first 12 black belts in the UK back in the early 60's/70's and has a tremendous amount of knowledge. He actaully had me in front of the whole class performing Toi Gye to highlight how to do certain techniques correctly etc which i was very proud about. Every now and then new clubs join the GTUK and recently a club joined in the city i work in (50km from where i live) and so i decided to go along to see what they were like. They do a slightly different version of ITF TKD to us and so have been trying to learn the GTUK way as we have a grading coming up (more on that in a bit!) and so for about half of the lesson the instructor had me teaching the green tags to black tags 1/2 step sparring. At the end of the lesson we hada quick Q&A section where they asked me some questions about how we grade etc and i hope i helped them feel and bit more of a part in the GTUK. This week we had a prelim grading practice for our coming up grading (end of the month!). I am currently going for my Black tag but our instructor thought it would be good to practice our breaks for our black belt. There is me and one other person taking their adult black belt at the next available black belt grading in march (if we are allowed). The breaks we need to perform are a side kick, from rear leg, through 3 inches of wood, reverse punch through 2 inches and a jumping high kick though 1" of wood a foot above our head. I managed to do the side kick 2nd time (i broke my toe 2 weeks ago so tried to take it a little bit too easy), the punch first time and the jumping high kick 2nd time. Even this fair away from the grading if i had done that in the grading for real i would still be in for a good shot at the black belt so that gave me good confidence. So thats it, a quick round up of my past few weeks TKD training. Lots coming up, like gradings, instructors courses, competitions etc so i am sure i will be weblogging soon!

Well, my wedding went amazingly, and the honeymoon was fantastic (facebook friends can view pics if they want!) but now its back to training.
I went for a quick 4 mile run yesterday to get back into it and i am aching loads! Gym tomorrow morning then first proper tkd training tomorrow night.
I have a grading next month (1st Kup) and the british regionals in november so lots to work towards!! I am looking forward to it all though!
I am having a short 2-3 week break for TKD from tomorrow due to me getting married! I am very nervous about the day so today I am off to the gym for a run and a bit of bag work before the big day tomorrow. 2 weeks in Tuscany then back to the training for me!!!

Well, what a surprise! We all know before training yesterday that our instructor was on holiday and so we were all fully expecting a good work out by some 3rd/4th degree instructors. We were very surprised when we walked into to the Dojang to find our instructors instructor Master Roy Oldham VIII fully dobok'd up and waiting to take our class. Master Oldham has been training for over 40 years (started in 1967) and was one of the first 12 disciples of UK TKD being one of the first few Black Belts in the UK. Master Oldham was trained by Master Rhee Ki Ha. The session started off with a very quick warm up and quickly developed into a good 20 minutes of study the pattern Chon-Ji and an explaination on how Chon-Ji is asuperb pattern for developing raw power and technique due to its simplicity whilst still encompassing and the fundimental basics of TaeKWon-Do. We then moved onto other patterns up to Joong Gun before starting 2 step sparring. Master Oldham gave us a demonstration of how to practice releases and set sparring at full power and quite a few people will have the bruises for many days to prove it. The 90 minutes was over far too quickly and Master Oldham pointed out at the end that it was the first time in over 10 years that he performed a full training session with a coloured belt group so we all felt very privileged! It wasa great session and the students who missed it will be kicking themselves on Monday!!!

I should find out on Monday whether I have passed but i hope i have as I can then go to Jee Goo classes and take my examiner courses which i am really looking forward to!

Recently in the past few months something quite significant has happen in the UK regarding TKD. Almost all of the TKD organisations in the UK are under the governing body the British Taekwondo Council (BTC). They have recently all decided that except for specific closed tournaments ALL taekwondo competitions will be open for students from any federation to take part with the only requirement being the tournament is run to the rules of the host. Due to this the GTUK Scottish Champs 08 had competitors not just from the GTUK but also from other groups like PUMA and TAGB. It was a great competition with hundreds of people taking part. But this is my blog, so lets just talk about me! I havent competed for over a year and half so it was all a bit of a shock to me really. I paused slightly in my pattern and got knocked out in the first round which was, er fun. In the sparring i had a good fight but lost by 3 judges to 1. So all i had left was destruction. I am normally quite good at this and luckily, with a 2 inch board ridgehand strike and a 4 inch side kick i managed to take the gold medal!!! It took us a 15 hour round trip to get there but everyone in the car all won at least one gold so over all it was a great weekend!!!

Havent posted a blog in some time so i thought I would jsut do a quick update. Went to training last week (wednesday) and was practicing jumping round house kicks and defense against them in pairs. I went up to do a kick but the other guy blocked with a punch which hit me right on my toes. One of them made a really nasty cracking noise and i couldnt walk for about an hour. For the rest of the week it still hurt and i was limping for days. Went out for a beer on saturday night and got a bit drunk and didnt really feel the pain in my foot so i was walking normally. Suddenly my foot made a crack and hurt a fair bit but them the pain went away. Turns out i had dislocated my toe and now, bar the bruising and a bit of swelling, its miles better so i will now be fit to attend a comp i had been looking forward to at the end of the month!
Following on from my running adventures I have recently joined a proper gym. I am currently going every morning at 7am for an hour before work. I row about 2000m, do about 1500m on the cross trainer, run 4000m then do 1000m on the hand bike. Its all quite tiring by my fitness level has gone through the roof already! I am starting weight training on tuesday once my personal trainer has programmed up my weight program in fitlinxx. I would advise extra training, be it in a gym or road running etc, to anyone who isnt do anything extra yet!!

I am getting a bit agitiated by the increasing use of the blog system for people to post random news (not related to them at all) and various other things like videos. I am not against news and videos but there are other places for it on on here i reckon and I spend loads of time clicking next next next to actually get to a blog written by someone about them. Anyway, rant over!!!
