I started my lifelong study of Taekwon Do at age six. Like many children, I was the victim of bullies. In an attempt to instill me with confidence and self defense skills, my parents enrolled me in Master Terry Guthery's school in Owasso, Oklahoma. There, I studied Taekwon Do from the age of six until fourteen. I earned my Il Poom in 1998. However, when Master Guthery took a break from teaching due to health issues, I left with him out of respect for my Master. For the next three years, I practiced Taekwon Do on my own, until Master Guthery reopened teaching.

When my family and I moved to Norman, I started practicing with the Kyung Hee University Taekwon Do Academy in Norman. There, I earned my Ee Dan in 2006. I also served as the schools Mental Training Instructor, wherein I taught students focus, discipline, breaking, and the philosophy and history of Taekwon Do.

In 2008, I began assisting in a multi-style Introduction to Martial Arts course at the University of Oklahoma. The other styles covered include Judo and Shotokan Karate-do. The course is held every Spring and Fall semester.

I am married to an outstanding, special lady and Taekwon Do prodigy whom I call "Little Cricket." We have two wonderful little girls, ages four and 18 months, who can hardly wait to practice with Momma and Daddy.

I have worked in Law Enforcement/Security for the past five years and will do so for the foreseeable future.

I earned my B.A. in History (Asian & Middle Eastern) from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, May, 2008.

Well, I know how to make forms look good, just have to learn it first lol...Low low stances, and high kicks, and snappy hand strikes...I definitely can get low and kick high lol

While I don't have an accessable vidoe readily available, I can give you some pointers.

First, if you are practicing for a test, to "make it look gooooood," to it exactly as your instructor does it.

Second, when executing Taeguk Sam Jang, keep in mind the elemental trigram of the I-Ching that it represents. Sam Jang corresponds to the trigram Ri and represents fire. Thus, when performing this poomsae, emulate the qualities that make fire unique among the elements. Be passionate, be powerful, be decisive.

Third, poomsae are the best way for you to turn Taekwon Do from a series of strikes and blocks into the Martial Art that is it. Through Taeguk Sam Jang and all other poomsae, practitioners have the oportunity to create the "art" of martial art.
