I formally began kumdo in January of 2005, though I had some informal exposure to it for many years before hand via a fellow taekwondoin who was also a kumdoin. Although Kwanjangnim calls it kumdo, he teaches traditional kendo and iaito; iaito is simply taught at highter belt levels rather than as a separate course of study. I love taekwondo, but there's nothing quite like swordsmanship!
