Our TKD school did a canned food drive. We donated six large boxes of canned goods to the local food pantry for Thanksgiving. We're planning on keeping it going until Christmas.
We had an interesting class. We practiced switch kicks (switch your feet and kick with the front leg-front, roundhouse, and side kicks). It was fast paced and fun. Next, we were evaluated on our head position and front stances. I know I have to keep practicing to make my stances better. We followed each other around the room in a line, practicing various things like down blocks, upper blocks, knife-hand blocks, outer middle blocks, etc. It was a good class!
Unfortunately, I had to go to work early tonight so I missed TKD class. On a positive note, we are doing a canned food drive for the local food pantry to help those in need of assistance during the holidays. The food pantry got flooded in June 2008 by the Iowa River so I know they need the help.
We had a good class. We did kicks, sa ju kong bongs (4 directional block & attack), forms, and self defense. I learned the first few moves of the form, Chung-Moo, and it is fun. We had a little boy white belt who had an accident in class, but no one knew about it except my mom. He was kicking & an object landed on the floor. A few minutes later, his father saw it & ran to get the toliet paper. Mom knew what happened then. She told me on the drive home and we both had a good chuckle out of it since the rest of the class didn't realize what had happened.
We had a fun class of sparring after warm ups. I need to remember to keep my side turned more to the opponent, but it will come.
Class was interesting tonight. We had several new students join. One student (who was only 5 or 6 years old) is very flexible. We did sa ju kong bongs, Chon-ji, and self defense. It was a lot of fun teaching the young ones.
Testing went very well for me, but not for the other brown belts. I passed and earned 2nd brown belt rank (Yeah!!!). I was extremely happy that my breaking was a lot better this round.
I will be testing for my 2nd Brown Belt on 09/29/2008. There are four other brown belts testing with me plus two blue belts (who will be testing for their brown belt). I have been practicing all weeks on my forms, one-steps, sparring, and breaking. I feel ready for this test!
I went to my first class of TKD after sitting out for over two months with a slipped disc in the lower back. It felt great and I had very little soreness afterwards. At least, I remembered all my forms. I have to work on the flexibility since I lost a lot from the injury. I didn't push it too hard, though!
