I like to stretch and kick the pad to stay loose. I'll read or listen to music. One thing I will do is vision techniques that my opponent will do and think about my responses. Got to keep it practicel when doing that though.

"Kick fast, kick hard."

Biggest thing for me is trying to relax.  I will tense up in a fight and where I think that I'm punching harder and kicking faster I'm wearing myself out.  We were doing heavy bag kicks just last night and Coach Ruiz is going, "Dude, where is all that anger coming from relax and kick the bag".  Which I immediately tensed up more.  Somehow my mind equates relax as slow or lazy.  So, I've got the training, the desire, the heart, I've done all that I can do to prepare, somehow I've just got to relax.

What do I do to get ready for a fight?

If you mean immediately beforehand...

I don't do anything.  I don't even think about the fight.  I'll read a book, catch a brief nap, watch other competitors, grab a light bite to eat and drink plenty of water, relax and chat with friends or new friends... etc.

I figure it this way... if it's the 'big day'... whatever's going to happen, is going to happen, and there's nothing more I can do to change it.  If I did my job getting ready for the big day... then everything will be fine... if I didn't do my job, then I'm gonna get my butt handed to me.  So there's no use worrying about it one way or the other.

When its time to get ready to compete... I just gear up, warm up, and get ready to go to work.

I tend to go out there 'emotionlessly'.   When it's time to get the job done, I shut the emotions off... I don't let emotions get into the game, because they'll screw you up every time.  I may, between matches/rounds, chat it up a bit and share a chuckle or two, but that's about it.  Otherwise, the emotion generator stays shut off.

I sincerely believe, whether it's a light contact sparring deal, or a boxing match, or an MMA fight.... you NEVER win your fight 'in the ring' because it can't be done.  You ALWAYS win it in the gym/do-jang, if you win it at all.  Training is where you build the stamina, speed, and strategy to win.  The ring is where you execute that strategy.  If you've trained well, and you get in there and 'do your job' (hit and don't get hit), you should be fine and the fight will take care of itself, as long as you KEEP doing your job and STAY ON TASK with a clear head and a patient mind.

What I do

This started when I was wresting my school mascot was the Spartan so a a reporter coined the term Spartan Strut.  I would pace back and forth behind the match area to warm up.  Just a slow steady pace that would help me get ready, think about moves reactions letting my mind flow through the moves feeling muscles tighten and loosen.  My intensity would go through the roof as well

If I can't get myself psyiced up for a match then I'm in trouble no matter in a dojang or infront of thousands of people and cameras.
