My son is 6 - turning 7 in about 2 weeks...He has been diagnosed with ADHD. He is a pain in class as well...he doesn't seem to pay attention and frequently has to do push-ups and/or sit out of class. When the class spar's, he is quite good for his size...can compete with the bigger kids. He loves TKD, talks about it all the time - even stated he wants to join gymnastics so that his kicks can be higher/better and his flexibility increased. It'a amazing how he thinks - very smart. He just thinks activities and school is more of a social event and frequently acts the "clown" for attention from others.

It takes a lot of patience to deal with this type of behavior. My son's goal is to become MASTER one day and run our school! some days are better than others, but you should always encourage and not discourage. Frequent conversations about what kids do right instead of just what they do wrong helps. TKD is best when student's want to do it, but kids don't always value now what they will value in the future. As long as my kid does well in TKD, I allow him to do other activities. I believe TKD is a way of life and not just an activity...we practice 3 hours a day, 4 days per week and 1 hour on saturday.
