I'm a student under Grand Master Kim on Yongsan Army Post in South Korea. Master Kim has taught me, my husband, and my 4 children TKD for a little over a year. I am amazed at how much we've been able to learn and I'm humbled by how much we still have ahead of us. TKD has strengthened my body and mind in a way no other sport has ever been able to do.
Because of the short time most soldiers and their families are in South Korea, Master Kim teaches us what we must know to pass the black belt tests at the actual KUKKIWON site! It has been hard, but extremely focused training. We do a lot of exercises, learn the forms, do kicks until we're exhausted, and then do more exercises. (He loves making us do squat hops with our hands on our heads, situps with a crunch, leg lifts, push ups, jumping jacks, and hundreds of situps.) It's "fun" waiting to hear what his next excuse will be to make us do another 60 pushups. (He loves to tell us to do more exercises if someone is sweating too much or someone isn't yelling loud enough! LOL!)
Testing at Kukkiwon was the most amazing experience. It's very loud. There were hundreds of spectators, many students testing, and several judges per testing group watching closely. Our group being Americans, we stood out just because of our hair color. It was intimidating! Also, the commands and instructions were given in Korean so it was a bit scary trying to remember everything AND the understand the language. Still, I wouldn't trade it for anything. WOW!

I'm a veteran, a military spouse, a homeschool teacher, and thankful to be alive! I love animals, I'm a vegetarian, and I love to travel. I play the guitar, love to read the classics (I'm working on "The Last of the Mohicans" right now), and my favorite color is cobalt blue. :-)
