meditation in class
We begin and end our classes with Mook Gnyum (Meditation). Does anyone have a view on meditation in the art.? or story.?

The first time I meditated in class (we did it after but not before) was when we had a black belt class at not my gym but my Grandmaster's gym.  I don't really have a story or a point of view on how relavant it is, but it's definitely relaxing and after a long workout is refreshing in a way I can't describe.

well when i was still going to tkd, in high school, we didn't usually meditate unless one of the black belts or Dr. Langlas, our instructor, wanted us to as a group. After a while of not usually meditating as a class, i decided to meditate in my uniform, usually outside, before even going into the dojang. I found that meditating before class on my own helped me to relax from the daily pressures and it helped me to focus. lol and it inproved my mood! lol :)

we used to do it, but i kinda thought it was pointless.  how many times have your classes mediated for more than 2 minutes before or after class?  in korea, we used to do it for 20-30 min at a time, and after a while, that still didn't feel like it was enough.
we learned how to control our "chi", up to the point where we can feel it in our hands and move our hands with it, and while learning that, we had to meditate for at least 30 min before we could even get started - some would do it in 15 min while some would take an hour before they can feel it (it feels like a big cotton ball between your hands with magnetic fields, so if you try to put your hands closer, it would "rawr" your hands in and if you try to separate your hands, it would push your hands out within the boundary of that "cotton ball").  i was able to concentrate and feel it in my hands within 2-3 seconds when i was meditating a lot, but now, it takes at least 20-30 seconds, sometimes minutes.

2 before and 2 after..just to clear our minds...every once in a while we will have a special meditation class for 1-1 1/2 hours.. i have a hard time meditating that long and getting any results, while some of my fellow students report getting the same feeling you have..

the ultimate goal of meditating is to "empty" your mind, which i find is pretty much impossible.  after learning about human brain for 2 years straight, it is impossible unless you suffer from a drain bamage.  although, there was this one time when i thought i was at that stage, but then i thought to myself "i think i did it", and had to start all over again.  lol.

We begin kumdo class with two minutes of meditation, but not taekwondo.  I think that it would be helpful, if for no other reason than to calm down some of the younger students who still neet to transition from playtime to class time.

I agree, sometime younger children don't know or understand the difference between class and play time, I wish we meditated at our school, maybe I'll start on my own :)
