On April 19th, we are hosting an open house at our Gaithersburg location. There will be taekwondo, hapkido, and kendo/kumdo demos. It would be great to see any of my friends from TKDspace!
The location:
Korean Martial Arts 18228 Flower Hill Way Gaithersburg, MD 20879 Phone: 301-330-9088

Good luck on your Open House. I grew up in Rockville so I do hope that you have a great time and that the community comes out to help.

I'd love to stop by if you've got on in June. I know it takes a lot of work and planning, so I wouldn't expect you to be putting on too many. I'd just like to throw out there that I'm definitely interested once I start living "in the area" (about an hour away I think).

We have another open house in Frederick on May tenth, but so far as I know, there are no June plans. But you're always welcome to stop by and visit!

As for Saturday's open house, it went very well! Turn out was good and our little dojang was filled over capacity! Forms went well, then we had sparring; my son and I got to spar in front of everyone, which was pretty cool! We did board breaking, then Master Kim, Master Choi, Master Yeo and Master Deb did a breaking demonstration where each broke multiple boards stacked together, and breaks with 540 kicks. Master Yeo did this thing where he took a full bottle of Sobe, held it over a trash can, and struck the cap, but blew out the bottom of the bottle! Then Master Kim started breaking slate. After the breaking, we had Hapkido demonstrations using unarmed, cane, and belt techniques. The last part was Kumdo, which consisted of wooden sword technique, a mock fight with wooden swords, hyung, yeon kyuk (ji geiko), and then kyorugi. Finally, Master Kim performed a very flashy demonstration form with a steel blade. In all, I was very impressed with our school's masters. It was a real treat to see all of them up showing off their technique. It gives all of us something to work towards and to strive for. Afterward, we had a pot luck party! And all was right with the world. Daniel

Congratulations Daniel! Glad things went well! At least you got things in before the weather turned nasty. I hope that your school continues to bring in new students, and, more importantly, retains it's current students.

It sounds like things went well! Congratulations! I will have to stop in some time. I probably won't be able to train there since it looks like it will be about an hour commute (still don't know precisely where I'll be). Thanks for the invite though.

Jeff, are you in Brewerton NY? If so, its a bit more than an hour... well, not if you're driving a Z/06. If you can ever make it by to visit, we'd love to see you. Daniel
