Right - I reckon this is too complicated for a poll. I'm really interested to know what your kihap is like. Obviously this is gonna take a bit of creative describing but I reckon it can still work...

Mine's a big old 'HE-YA' like hear/here but with emphasis on the 'he' bit. Not like the karate kid Hiiiii-ya... honest :)

We seem to have a lot of 'TAYs' at our school....

Jx

Hehe. I love listening to different kihaps. Its one of the individual things people have in the uniformity that is Tae Kwon-Do.

My kihap has changed many times. I just shout whatever comes to mind. It used to be 'Hai' when i first started and has now moulded itslef into something of a 'tseah!'.

As a side note, i would love to have Dae Han's kihap from Best of the Best. It's so awesome! lol

My is a deep "Hie" when I want to I can echo the dojang like my instructor.  It's easy for me in some ways,  in high school when I was in marching band during pratice we would have to yell commands over the whole field and so you learn to "bark" with the diaframe.  My director was a former marine so he taught the drum majors how to do it.

I do get a little annoyed by the younger students that just seem to scream at the the top of their lungs when told to be loud.

Mine's sort of a weak, 'hyup'- coming from an ITF background, we didn't practice kihaps, so I'm not entirely sure when you are supposed to do them....it seems some people do it when going into a guarding stance, some don't do it when kicking....all a bit unclear to me! Maybe I should just ask my instructor!

Breaking:  My kihap sound low and loud (Asaah!)

Sparring:  Very high to attract attention.  My wife calls me an owl, my Master laughs, my son is embarrassed.

A loud and lusty 'hyup'. I especially like to intimidate the colored belts. (I know, but I get a preverse pleasure out of it)

My daughter's kihap to me sounds like some sort of indian warfield battle cry.  At least that's what it reminds me of.

It can be heard thoughout any competition venue we are in, from any side of the venue.

and

Are 2 examples.  The 2nd one was filmed from the farthest possible viewing point of her match and she is facing away from the camera but her kihap can still be heard loud and clear.

Mines just the letter 'a' very loudly, though I've never dared do it full volume!

It can be good when sparring; just for that 'oh crap i'm sparring a nutter' moment.
