For the first time in Park Chan-Wook's film career, his latest film Thirst will be backed in North America by a major studio. This week a deal was made between Korean powerhouse CJ Entertainment, Universal Pictures International, and Focus Features. CJ will be in charge of Korean and international sales while Focus will take the reins in the US.

The still-in-production Thirst is lead by Korean superstars Song Kang-ho,Shin Ha-kyun, and up-and-comer Kim Ok-bin in a tale of "a priest who volunteers to participate in a medical experiment to find a cure for a deadly disease. However, his physical and psychological transformations during the experiment have traumatic repercussions for his followers and friends." 

One would assume that the film will be a prime candidate for Cannes next year.
