How's this for a macho meathead topic: your worst injury from the dojang.  Related topic: worst thing you've seen happen to someone else in the dojang.

My worst injury: I discovered that your knee will bend sideways if you apply enough pressure.  I was sparring with a huge ex-college football player; he threw a blind back kick which connected with my right knee.  Nothing tore (thank God) but the sprain was severe.  Five years later I re-sprained the same knee when I overshot the Wavemaster bag while practicing jumping roundhouse kick.

Worst I've seen: I saw a guy eat a spinning hook kick; his nose broke, and he dropped like a rock.  Buckets o' blood.

Honorable mention: a felow Old Guy snapped his ACL while doing plyometric drills in a class I was leading.  As he put it, the drill was "the straw that broke the camel's back".  I still felt horrible about it.

Okay, let's hear about the blood and guts...

My personal worst was tearing the hamstring in two places, felt like the back of my leg became disengaged from the bone and moved all the way to the side.  Dumped me in the floor.  Twelve weeks later and I'm still going to physical therapy and can't turn and torque for pivoting can not throw any high kicks yet for fear of undoing what healing has occurred.  The therapist says about six more weeks from being back to a point where I can rev it up again.  One thing a Doctor said that put it in perspective, "You want to know when you'll be 100%, maybe never.  But, you were at a 100% when this happened so getting back there doesn't mean a lot does it."

Worst I've seen, There was a blue belt, natural at TKD, thought he was unbeatable.  Threw a lazy spin hook and leaned way over for some extra height.  His opponent did a 360 round house and instead of catching him in the hogu caught him in the face.  Shattered his cheekbone and eye socket.  It took four reconstructive surgeries before he had full use of the eye.  He was in and out of the hospital for over a year and stayed weeks at a time.  He never did TKD again even after he healed.

Worst I've had, while sprinting (shuttlerun) I went over my limits and couldn't place my foot properly near the finish line, I sprained my foot [people sprain it when it gets twisted sideways, mine is FRONTWAYS -.- overloaded]. Couldn't walk that night and the following day. And of course the persistant problem with my knee (tap it at some point it will hurt, but not on the other knee) and my right foot, aches whenever I kick the heavy bag more than 5 times -.-

Worst I've seen(kind of seen -.-), one of my seniors [qualified coach, referee(both poomsae and kyeorugi), national squad] didn't warm up(properly or at all, not sure) injured her leg during a sparring session, was in a huge bandage and was limping away for quite a while, but she has recovered.

never tought id post this.

I was sparing a dude and he did a high ax kick. i steped in to him while doing a high block. it ripped his ham string in two! They had to carry him out! we was yelling with pain griping his leg like a tiger holding his pray.

I was attending a turninment on summer around 1996. a white guy spone and tipped the Korean guy in the nose. barley nicking the nose. the Korean guy who was disrespecting the white guy the whole match when to his couch. he was mocking the kick of the white guy. the couch reached up and touched the nose of the Korean guy and his nose opened like a car door, blood spilled all over the dobak and the mats. it was like a water fall for a few seconds.

i was young and had been a instructor for a very short time. I had some young ladys in sparing class.  they where always competing. one of the ladys slipped and kicked the other below the belt. The other lady that received the kick countered back to the others girls private area. they contued exchanging kicks as i tried to stop them. Then all of a sudden one hit the ground. got up and ran in the rest room.  i made the other one follow. They where in there for 14 or so min. i sent anther  female student in to see what was up. she came back and reported the lady's Tapon was nonrecoverable. We sent the lady to the hospital.

my daddy told me a story about a man that was in sparing class and got kicked super hard. now this was before hogos. he contued the rest of the class and attended another to find out he had a broken rib the whole time.

i goofy master that i dare not say his name because he on this site was showing students a speed break. we had a re brakble board he was doing the Bruce lee  o chamber punch. he punched and and broke is finger so much the bone was sticking out.

I got mad at a large strong 6 ft adult student after he back kicked a teenage girl with all his power. I sat him down and spared him the last 5 min of class. he decided to punch me in the face hard.  keep in mind we where doing WTF,  the next thing i know blood was every where. he needed 4 stitches from my round hose kick to his head. i fill bad for that.

I was sparing a kung fu master and he got made because i kicked him. he punched my eyebrow on my left eye. I ran to the mirror and i saw my own bleach white scull. still have the scare.

i had a student that had a son fresh out of the Army form over seas. he told me he wanted to roll with me. which means to submissions wrestling. he informed me he was a black belt in BJJ.  i turn him down till after his dad asked me and i agreed. the young man took me down and i slowly took him with me.  i looked at his shoulder  after i was in the mount to discover his arm popped out of socket. we had to send him to the hospital. it was just dangling there like spaghetti.

My master put me in charge of a few kids at a pool summer camp outing. i had to constant remind a student to stop running. well he ran again and feel chin first. i could not only see in his chin but see his saliva glans and surrounding tissue . i sent a kid to call his mom and off he went for stitches.

I was sent to train a traditionalist school Olympic TKD. there i meet a blackbelt male that  warned me  to be care full when it came to sparing. he was a rather large man.  he informed us he killed his wife with a back spinning hook kick to the back of her head while they where sparing. we always where sparing helmets thanks to what he said.

To bad i cant tell you guys story's form me working as a firefighter and EMS.

I will never forget the worse that I have seen.

I was a mere beginner at the time and was watching the advanced students performing their breaks.

Two of the black belts were holding boards for a student doing a sidekick break.

The student kicked one of the holder's fingers and the tip of his finger spouted an upward stream of blood and the tip of his finger was dangling. It was soooo freaky and needless to say had quite an impact on me that to this day I hesitate to ever hold for anyone.

That black belt actually made a necklace with the fingernail from that finger.... now that is even freakier!

I've been pretty lucky. Most of my "scars" are from outside the dojang.

But I have had my share of bruises, buised ribs, broken toes and a torn hamstring from doing partner stretches (which I will no longer do if you are not going to pay attention when I "tap out".

Worst I've had in TKD is one a Kenpo instructor putting a house key through my earlobe duing a self-defense sem. (not a good way to get piercings)  I wanted hit him because he knew that my hear was partialy ripped from head once.  The other time I broke my toe with snap kick board break.

The worst I've seen is a woman break for clavical during testing.

Wrestling is were I got most of my scars, and abosulte worst thing I saw is a person bench pressing cusching their ribs when they dropped 300 lbs on it.

Argh! I feel sick after reading some of those!!!

firemanandxmarine: is that true about the bloke killing his wife?! Why is he not in prison?!!!

I've been very lucky to have only had cracked ribs twice and a broken knuckle.

A girl in a class I was in disclocated her knee- that was the worst thing I've seen. We weren't even doing anything at the time either! We were all just stood in line while the instructor was talking and she just collapsed!
