This seems like another moment for me to say, "my wife was right."
My worst was spraning the same ankle not once, not twice, but THREE times in the same practice. I just started up at a new school after we moved. This school used the foam padded, squishy tiles on the floor (my old school used blue school carpet on top of concrete) which I was VERY unused to. The short of the story is...I sprained the ankle twice during practice, and a third time afterwords while we all played some soccer for some additional cardio. As we left, my wife noticed a slight gimp. I told her I was fine and proudly walked out. The next morning, as I rubbed Tiger Balm on my ankle, whining about my pain, my wife looks me straight in the eye and said, "I told you to take it slow."
Now that I think about it...a few months ago, I was sparring v. an older Dan...Sa Dan if I recall. We were in full gear and practicing for a tournament. Let us be clear...I am not a tall fellow--about 68" tall. That said, one would expect that kicks to my torso/head would be easier than one to say...my pelvic bone. In this bout, that aparently was not the case. I recieved two full power side thrust kicks to the front of my pelvic bone (that area below the chest protector but above the cup). Once again, I shook it off and finished practice, plus three more bouts, but for a week, I could barely walk!
