like my instructor always telles the kids to do things like respect your parents more clean the house and all that... so has martial arts taught you kids more respect or do they just do it in class and for get it when they come home??

Hard to say.  I'm their kendo instructor, so home discipline carries over to class for them.  I worked very hard to raise my kids with 'martial arts' values because I have an MA background, so I'd say that martial arts has affected my parenting more than it has directly affected my kids in these areas.

I definately noticed a change in James from his martial arts trainng.  He is much more confident, and won't cower when confronted.  Also in the house we have to work on situational awareness.  We are not living in fear but it is kind of like the Pink Panther movies where Peter Sellers has to be on his guard all the time or get beat down by his butler.  Nothing like watching TV on the sofa and have an 11 yr old slap a rear naked choke on you going, "Tap or nap Dad whats it going to be!!!".

Was that hands up and chin down, or the other way around?

I have noticed a difference in my kid. He used to have an attitude (I think mostly to fit it) but he tried to hang around older kids and they picked on him which frustrated his original goal to fit in better. He's great, don't get me wrong...but he has gotten more humble with his training and it actually surprises me that he doesn't go around boasting too much about his TKD training. He confidence has improved and he doesn't feel like he has to prove things to others now.
