I am trying to lose a little weight and am having trouble with craving sweets. I have almost cut out soda (use it for taking vitamins and medications) but find myself craving chocolate. I thought this would be easy since I had given a lot worse vices than this. Anyone have any ideas or what worked for you?

Get it all out of the house!! If you dont got it you cant eat it!!! eat more fruits! And it's ok if you have chocolate cravings ... like get the dark dark coco ones! Its supposed to be good for you but most people dont like it so it could make you stop thinking about it ..

Thanks for the reply, You are right if its not there I can't eat it, but my hubby and kids will protest. Guess I'll have to make cookies I don't like. I keep thinking if I can make it a few days I'll be ok.

Be aware of your cycle. It makes a huge difference. Have a chocolate, but make it a special one. check your blood work, and add multivitiman. Try more green leafy types. Craving the sweets is indicative of a blood sugar problem. eat more often and less. and NO BOOZE. get on a bike and spend 10 or 15 minutes planning tommorrow.

Along w/ what has been mentioned I will pull a trick from the Bodybuilding world. It's called a "Cheat" day. Now a cheat day does not mean you spend the entire day sitting on the sofa gourging on chips, chocolate, and soda. It simply means that it is a day where you indulge what your body is craving REASONABLY! If it's salty you want, go ahead. Sweets, fine. Just remember though you have to get right back on your exercise routine the next day. If you don't want to add another cardio session or another mile to run, be smart on your CHEAT DAY. Increasing the amount of complex carbs you ingest will help maintain a stable blood glucose level and help out w/ cravings. Fruits are ok to satisfy cravings during the rest of the week. Sugarless gum works (I would say sugarless candy but bleh!_) as well.

As far as a cycle I don't have them anymore as of June. The reason for abdominal surgery. I do take vitamins along with extra vit C and calcium to prevent bone loss. I try the suggestions and hopefully after a while I'll no longer want sweets. I need to remind myslef that I won't lose any weight if I keep pleasing that craving. Yesterday I almost had a small bag of Fritos until I saw how many calories were in that small bag, that made me pass on the chips. I am trying to keep track of what I eat so I can cut out wasted calories. As far as exercise I am going walking/jogging in the morning for 1/2 hour (trying to build up somr cardio since I have none) and working no basic strikes, blocks, kicks, and one step sparring. I also have a physio routine I do that seems to last over a 1/2 hour. I do the physio bit everyday, its seems to help with my abs and back. Thanks for the suggestions!

I don't know about you but the protien powder that I use comes in three flavors and one is choclate, it fills my cravings, I also enjoy Cookies'n'Creme. But I had to cut the pop out and it's made a huge difference, I was at my sister's the other weekend and all she had that was cold was pop, I tried some and it was just too sweet now, I can't believe I use to drink that stuff like a fish in water. Just work it out slowly and over time the cravings will disappear and like what was said earlier a reasonable cheat day isn't a bad thing.

Pooky. Consider adding in some sort of weight training to your routine. And, as Baby_Huey suggests, protein shakes (add your favorite fruit to it for more sweety goodness) are a good choice. If you add some lean muscle you increase your metabolism. More muscle means more fuel is needed to build and maintain it! Like shoving a V-8 engine into a Mini Cooper. The outside won't change too much but you will definitly burn more gas!

How often do you suggest for weight training? I'm going to start using the weight room at our park and rec center since it is very cheap, like 3.00 per visit or 20.00 a month. So resistance band exercises won't build muscle?
