Well that's TKD out of the olympics then. Maybe its time to get back the the respectful art of TKD and not the flouncy screaming, punching the air and general lack of respect for the art.
To be honest watching TKD at the olympics has put a bit of bitter taste in my mouth. I used to be proud to say i practice the art but now i will feel a slight pang of guilt at being associated with it.

I think that might be a bit harsh; sport or MA is going to have its fair share of arrogant T**s, and it is unfair to group people based on the actions on one very sore loser. But I do agree that the general level of respect has to increase.
I think that the punishment is fair as well; for those who dont know, he has been banned from all WTF tournaments, and I doubt that any of the other groups will want to have anything to do with him either.

I guess so, my point is that unless you study TKD you only knowledge of it will be of watching a gold medal contender kicking a ref in the head.
I bet if you mention to people in the near future that you do TKD a fair few will comment on the cuban guy.
We both study under a very good federation and great instructors but it does appear that there is quite a lot more "Sport" to TKD than we generally train to.
Lack of bowing, on and off the mat, let alone to the opponent and judges. Stupid shouting to try and influence the judges, bad judging (although this is always subjective), quite frankly odd noises being made, falling to the ground under little contact, the miraculous "spray" that fixed every ailment amonst other things hasn't done much good in the eyes of the general public. Can you imagine the uproar is a boxing competitor punched the ref in the face because he disagreed with the decision.
It does seem however that the WTF have distanced themselves as far away from it as possible with the lifetime ban but i would be very surprised in TKD was in the 2016 or 2020 olympics.

TKD was on the chopping block for 2012 before the games, this could be the final nail in the coffin. I don't agree with what he did, but I understand how it can happen.

Can you elaborate on "how it can happen", because I can't see it.

Some athletes are good at what they are do but it doesn't mean that they have the mentality to handle the pressure, I understand how things like it happen because it happened to me. I wasn't on the Olympic stage but it was national that lead lead to my down fall. I was treated specail and I felt like everything was about me and I was the bigger then the sport. My senior year in high school I snapped, Knocked down a ref giving him a serious concussion, then left the gym head butting the door knocking into a trophy case. A lot of people have had thoughts of when they feel they are screwed that they want to attack people and instead of self-control it's acted upon. I paid for what I did, I had to make a public appology and then had 50 hours of community service to complete. If you believe in Karma, my knee blew out, I lost my scholarship to D1 schools and some other issues. It's easy for people to say, I would never do that because most people never make it to that level, I was one that once said something similar after watching a guy from my school district throw down a silver medal at Sidnye games. But I was wrong. OG, so when I said "I can see how it happened" it was more from personal experince. I hope that explains my comment.

It's just hard for me to fathom I guess it's a matter of walking that mile in another man's shoes. It doesn't make it good, it doesn't even make it acceptable but since you've walked that mile I appreciate you explaining how something like this might happen.

TKD is (or at least it was) locked in for 2012 per the vote in 2006. 2016 was up in the air and it seems likely at this point to me at least, that it will not be back at that point. But in 2006 it did pass the vote for 2012.

Considering the UK has already started designing and building for 2012 i would say it would hard to drop it. 2016 is a different matter all together
