ok for the Men 68kg (150 lbs) Gold Medal Contest (the one ware he lost) Mark Lopez didn't ever bow to his appoint! He just nodded his head! What the poo!! When people keep on talking about the Lopez family I thought they would be respectable people.(turnes out the US TKD team is cocky(but people say the ego goes along with the champion) ).But when Mark Lopez did that ... man if I was with Korea I would be pissed! Korea bowed all the way down and even bowed to him before he interred the mat! Martial Artist bows to lower your self and show respect for the other person... and when Mark kicked Korea's balls he started smiling and when he did that he just was standing over him! Even when the fight was over and Mark knew he lost he didn't bow he just lowered his head. Man if I ever had a chance to be in the Olympics I would give my appoint all my respect cause I know their country is counting on them and I know that people all over the world is looking up to them and looking at them as a role model and counting on them to win! Man I would just hold my appoint cause I know that no matter what! We are doing this for the love of taekwondo and we all have the same dream. And even thow Im not religious, I would just pray every sec I can and be thankful for every sec Im in the same place of these amazing athletes and everyone that has given their heart to taekwondo cause so many other people are better then me and other people in the Olympics, put just not discovered. I will know that Im not worthy to be given this chance. Im sorry but I know that everyone that does Martial Arts may not have respect for their appoint and may think they are all that! But for some reason when I hear that someone is doing Martial Arts I would think they would be a respectable person and a good person but some many times I'v been proved wrong ..  Man, their just turning taekwondo into nothing but a sport....

I have to agree with you, i didn't see that match you were talking about, but I saw the match with Turkey , and he acted very cocky.
I just started to read and watch interveiws with all the Lopez'sto get to know them and what they were like. I was disappointed in his behavior during the match.
To bad for them.. they may be champions, but cockyness dosen't belong in TKD.
I was brought up to ALWAYS be gracious and humble, no matter if you are winning or losing. That's what drew  me to martial arts, was the matter of RESPECT... which society has too little of.

I met a young man in Okinawa who said he trained and competed in Texas against the Lopez's.  He had all sorts of tales of arrogance and tantrums.  But isn't that more common than not at that level.  When we hear of a professional or world class athelete being gracious, or kind, or just a regular joe aren't we a litlle surprised.  The fact that this clown represented the US and was disrespectful under our flag makes it worse but if they have TKD in the 2012 Olympics you can bet that they'll do what they can to send the Lopez family back to represent the US.  When it comes down to it they are some of the best in the world.  Cocky, arrogant, rude, disrespectful, may come with the package but they can put their feet on the target faster than just about anyone and to the general populace  a chance at grabbing the gold out weighs behavior.  As a matter of fact had he won the gold and behaved that way he'd still be lined up for interviews for the next year.
On a side note, Korea is probably not that pissed since most Koreans view us this way anyway.  The feature that they did on Son Tae Jin here on KBS was great.  By all accounts he is good natured, happy go lucky, humble individual.  I'd like to think that as TKDists he represents, as a competitor, what we should strive to attain.
Hard livin at my house right now

I had the same problem back in 2001 with a wrestler named Sammy Hensen, wrestled in the Sydney games and took silver and threw it on the floor, he wrestled in my school district and when he came back he was treated like a hero and I had to accept a medal from him and pose for pictures.  I disliked him. Sadly a couple years later I had turned into him after competing in a couple junior national teams as a heavyweight.  I thought I was bigger then wrestling.  It's what happens to people if they aren't level headed.  I was a jerk and treated people bad.  My senior year was colaspe with injuries I was getting upset and knocked down a ref giving him a concussion. I'm not proud of it and had to deal wih my anger.  I have a desire to compete still but I never want to go back to the national stage or even higher, I couldn't handle it. It's easy to say that you will never do something like that when you aren't or haven't been at a high level.

Also if you read all the Lopez famly interviews you may notice they call TKD a sport, I've never heard them once call it an art.

Yeah, after these displays, I'm even less of a fan of Olympic Taekwondo.
