The fact that you could continue to work on the fundamentals and feel that there is still more to learn is part of the reason why a child cannot be a "black belt" until they turn 16.

There are a lot of life experiences we have to rack up to gain the patience and insight to be able to understand that even the basics can always be improved.

But even all that wonderful age and insight doesn't stop us from getting bored eventually too.

Well said, Kalynn.

In addition, I'd ask what your son would like to do. Exploring other things (other MAs, music, golf, etc) while keeping TKD as a base is a great thing. IMO. The kind of success he's had a young age in TKD might make him blase' (sp?) about it if he feels as tho "that's all there is to it."

Ok, it's late & I'm just repeating Kalynn. So I'll end with...."yeah, what she said"

Luckily for my my Grandmaster is a 9th dan Kukkiwon Certified black belt as well as a 9th degree Hapkido. If your kid is not learning anything any more than it is up to you as the parent to talk to the master to see if there is more he could train on. Maybe give him a chance to be on Demo Team or to start helping out in the teaching of classes to keep his interests. If there is nothing left for him to learn (which I doubt, because every passing day is a learning experience even for me) then give him a some time off from TKD or like you said put him in another art. However he's been doing TKD for so long, he may not even be interested in another art. You may put him in for a few months then he may not enjoy it. You know what I mean. Ultimately it is his choice. Maybe you should have a father and son talk about it and let us know.
