I have to say that I wake up aching and sore, hard to move. It is the same whether I work out more, or not at all. I take ibuprofin on a regular basis. Anyone have this problem? What is your advice - besides talk to a doctor?

Hey! I get stiff and achey sometimes, but not as bad as I used to get because I now take extra protein (for the last few months), in the form of a protein shake. Nothing fancy, just the cheap powder stuff from Holland and Barrett.

Also, I stretch regularly at home (it works best after a hot bath), but if you're busy and pushed for time it can be a bit of a drag....

I was a bit stiff after training on Monday because we stretched at the beginning of the lesson before we had done anything, so I've spent the last couple of days walking around like C3PO!

Wait till you get to be my age!!!

 I live on Advil LOL

I do additional stretching after my evening training and in the morning after a hot shower.  If I have had an extremely gruelling class I take a soak in the jacuzzi/hot tub ....  it's a must have for a martial artist!!

All in all, hopefully it is a good pain that you are feeling.... the one that tells you that you trained hard and worked the muscle groups to their utmost.

My feet hurt when I wake up to the point that I can't walk, I kind of shuffle around until things get stretched out and loosen up.  Coach Ruiz says that it is from staying up on the balls of my feet so much (which is a good thing) and stretching all of those tendons and such that run across the bottoms of your feet.  I have had troubles with my knees to the point that at one time or another both of them have unexpectedly dumped me in the floor.  I wear flexible braces on each one now and eat motrin and glucosimine like it was a food group.  Still nursing my hamstring at the moment and going for x-rays on Tuesday to say if I just need to wait longer of if surgery is required.  When I was doing Escrima (stick fighting) my wrists got so that they hurt so bad that I occasionally I would have to stop for a week or so just to get the pain to subside enough to lift anything over 5 or 10 lbs.  I still have to really wrap them up a lot when I'm boxing.  I like to tell my self that it's because my striking has gotten so good but I know the real reason.  So to answer your question, yeah I'm in a little discomfort doing martial arts.  My advice stretch when you wake up, stretch before you go to bed, buy motrin by the case, and have 911 on single digit speed dial.  My other adice was not to wait till your in your mid forties before you start training but you've got that covered .

Epson Salt baths are nice for me,  Also I live on Icey Hot and Tiger Balm.  If you knees or joints are really bothering you, I like gel braces, they are really cool because you heat the gel up and then the brace keeps the heat next to your joints.  Also after workouts, I like to have a protien shake which helps relieve, chocolate milk is suppose to help as well.

ooh ooh, me me.  i almost always injure something almost as soon as my previous injury gets better.  my lower back went out in may, pulled my butt in june, and popped my elbow in july.  thankfully, i'm still dealing with my butt and elbow, so no new injury.  at the rate of this healing process, i think my butt and elbow will get better by mid september, which is a good news to me, because i want a new injury.  kinda getting sick of bummed elbow and pulled butt.

yelp the hot tub is my best of friend. It heals me twice as fast.  martial arts is hard on the body. thats why most artist get sore. Make sure you do lots of good stretching.  tai chi would be awesome for healing also yoga is good to help also.don't over work in training. take you time with the techniques or you will injure your self. before you work out you must, you must, YOU MUST  warm the body up. then you stretch. not less than 40 no more than 45. You can bounce if you want to. if hurts don't do it. do this thats on this vid it has more than helped me.

I wish I could answer no, but the truth is YES.  I used to laugh at that old phrase "It's all downhill after 40". I'm not laughing any more.
