I've seen the Defense v. Choke Hold in Krav Maga and Kapap.

We do the choke defense. One time when we were doing self defense I ended up being paired with one of the masters. There was a technique that I couldn't break free of and the other master asked me if I knew the finger technique. I said no and immediately thought oh crap this is going to hurt. He showed me the technique and it did hurt like heck. Works very well for someone not expecting it. In class we are not allowed to do it all the way since there are kids and they don't realize how powerful some of these techniques are. Plus wood floors put a stop to any takedowns.

At places I have trained self defense technques (step combinations) are taught from white belt up and part of testing. To be honest the area I am weakest is the ground however I am thankfully working through that.

[quote="doughboy"]i think we all need to learn these moves and teach them to students.

Why treat self defence has a style, is it not what we teach? Anyway, to properly defend oneself is not easy, but yet the human has the inate ability to do so, anything from biting to pinching to pulling hair is valid, the problem lies in that we must not forget to teach this, for this is true Martial Arts! Teach them to kick, yes, but tell them that the groin is ok, if he grabs you, you punch, bite, stomp, pinch. If he moves you hit, if he dosen't move make him. The the "style" but not the rules, let them know the rules of controll but don't let them forget how to loose control.

If all you have is kicks then thas all you will do, what happens if you hurt your knee in a street fight? What if the opponent is big and tall, will you fight him fair, or will you take out his knees or sight or groin.

It is not strength nor speed nor movement what I desire, it is power, quickness and reaction what I want!...So here I come!
