everybody agrees that eversince UFC went world wide TV has changed dramatically in the sence of more viewers.  Everybody has to enjoy at least one fighter(mine being Joey Lazon).  My dream is to go UFC myself.  But amny people feel that UFC is slowly turning into a fake fighting show like Raw or smackdown.  UFC has lost many of its viewers because of this rumor.  I beg to differ but no matter how hard I try people seem to prove me wrong no matter what kind of evidence I have.  I refuse to believe that UFC is now a fake fighting show.  I was wondering how everybody else feels about these rumors.

I don't think the rumors of the fights being fake are true.  But I don't like how UFC is now.  I can see the comparison of fights being set like they would be in wrestling.  I like UFC when if first started as tournement, very few rules, but now it's no longer no-holds-bar like it use to be for safety concerns.  Fights are different now and instead of being a studier of a spefic art people are seen more as striker or grappler. I don't watch too much UFC and I've been to IFL fights and they are ok, just not my cup of tea.

People being labeled as striker or grapper in mixed martial arts type events is just a natural consequence of evolution.  There is real prize money involved, so the emphasis is to gravitate towards what works.  Royce Gracie taught all the strikers at the early UFC events that their basic premise about fighting was flawed.  I don't know if any of you have seen UFC2, but Fred Ettish is what happens when you walk into a gunfight armed with a knife.  Royce was in turned schooled by a new generation of crosstrainers who taught him that proficiency in grappling alone is no longer enough.  In the world of MMA fighting, single art traditionalists are dinosaurs, they just couldn't evolve to keep up.

I'm not an avid watcher, but as far as I can tell UFC of now is not staged fighting.  Some of the fights are just boring, three rounds of two guys cuddling each other on the ground, one too timid to risk a fight winning choke or hold, and the other too busy just maintaining the position.  If they were staged, they'd make fights interesting at least.  Look at WWE fights.  Dumb, impractical, laughable, but showy and interesting.

I'm a huge MMA fan, but it's like boxing: when it's good, it's very entertaining; when it's bad, it's "rawr" near unwatchable.  In the early days of UFC there were some fights that were incredibly boring.  Nothing worse than watching a 30 minute grappling stalemate.

As it exists now MMA is a very good combat sport, and pretty much a style unto itself.  UFC is largely responsible for the changes for the better: weight classes, time limits. 10-point must scoring, and, uh, safety.  In the early days MMA was, at best, a fringe sport with no appeal beyond martial-arts nuts and barroom brawlers.  Now it's huge worldwide.

Sure there are things to dislike about UFC (don't get on the boss' bad side!) but I see it as a positive thing by and large.  It doesn't have much to do with traditional martial arts, but that's okay, there's plenty of room for all of us.
