The idea that we let Kukkiwon decide who can represent the US and who can't is absurd.

It's not Kukkiwon that decides. They have nothing to do with it. The WTF controls Olympic sparring.

You missed my point...without a BB certification from Kukkiwon (WTF HQ) you can't even compete to win a spot on the Olympic team.  So in a sense they are deciding by eliminating every talented TKDist that is not in the WTF.  IMHO this is what makes the merger of the ITF and the WTF a big deal.  I'm not just hacking on the WTF it is the only TKD organization that I have ever been in.  I've been fortunate enough to stand on the floor at Kukkiwon and test for my 2nd degree and am slotted to test for my 3rd in Oct.  I'm not mad at Kukkiwon it was a great marketing play, I'm disappointed that these constraints were ever alowed to be put in place by the IOC and that a lot of great atheletes have been deprived of the chance to represent their country.

Arlene Limas (1988 US Gold medalist in Korea) ran across the same "you're not KKW ranked" issue when she was trying for a spot on the team. It's one of the reasons she has since become a lawyer. I think with the USAT now giving out rank, they no longer have that issue. The reality is, if a Kung Fu or ITF or Karate stylist showed the promise to be world class in Olympic-style sparring. He/she would be given a KKW cert by someone pretty quickly. Whether or not they knew the forms.

If thats the case and they would dish out a certificate that others have trained long and hard for just to get someone into the olympics then i am glad I dont train under the WTF!

The Kukkiwon is not the WTF Hdqtrs. They are two seperate entities. The KKW is the training ctr for TKD. The WTF is a sports organization that governs WTF or Olympic TKD sparring rules.

I think the IOC has stated that no one can be forced to get a certificate from the WTF. Remember that no boxer, swimmer or any other Olympic player is required to have any piece of paper. They simply have to win their national trials that select Olympic players. If a nation is violating the IOC charter, a complaint should be made.

I no longer think this is necessary. I beleive the IOC said a cerificate or lack thereof can be used as an impediment. No other Olympic sport gets away with it. So make a complaint, if they don't listen, write to the IOC.

The brackets have been posted.  Don't forget if you want to follow the action live, to subtract 15 hours (for those of us on the west coast) from the posted start times.  So for instance, Charlotte Craig's first fight (Vs Switzerland) is at 7:15PM Pacific Time Tuesday night.

http://www.usa-taekwondo.us/ has links to the brackets and times.
