So, I think its fantastic that TKD is finally getting the recognition it deserves for being an Olympic sport, but I hate how it's getting the recognition. TKD is only getting recognition because all three of the Lopez siblings are going, which is great and all but what about Charlotte Craig, I mean she is going to the Olympics too, and nobody gives her any recognition in the general public. Plus, if you watched the fight between Diana Lopez and Nia Abdallah, you would understand where I'm coming from. It is sad that TKD has stooped to everyone elses level just to get some publicity. Isn't TKD supposed to be about humility and honor and ettiqute??? What happend in that fight had nothing to do with any of those ideas. What is becoming of the TKD community in the US? Is it going completely to politcs?????

Not everyone is behind the support of the US TKD team, speaking from a US citizen, the division between styles cause friction. I study both ITF and WTF but the Olympis is WTF and those who are pure ITF may not like it. The art needs to unify under one banner and make a stronger showing then what it is now, IMO. As for the Lopez famliy, looking their bios it is really impressive of what they have done as group. Charlotte is good, don't get me wrong, but she is more or less the odd person out. As a member of the media I've see interviews of the Team the Lopezs are strong interviews and the media tends to go towards them since they want the good sound bites and quotes.

If one considers TKD a sport, than things become competitive. If one considers TKD a MA then the emphasis should not be on competition with others, should it?

Shouldn't all Americans root for their countrymen/women on all the Olympic teams? It would seem unpatriotic to me to not root for a fellow countrymen because of a different membership.

Personally the way that they got there is flawed. My sense of right and wrong outweighs my need to support the US team in TKD. The idea that we let Kukkiwon decide who can represent the US and who can't is absurd. BTW Nia you were done wrong and I hope Diane is the victim of the fastest KO in Olympic history. After 20+ yrs of service in the military and still serving you do not want to call me un-patriotic.

what lopez family have done as a group is quite an achievement.
as for nia and diane, i thought nia definitely had won the fight from what i saw. but those who's been a judge at a tournament for years should know that not all the judges see the fight from the same angle, and mistakes are unavoidable. and, sometimes, even when judges thought they judged fairly from what they saw, a view from different angle could disagree. it happens at least once in every tournament, and the fact that more people(than, say a local tournament) were watching olympics try-out with little help of internet blew this whole thing out of proportion.
for diane, she has to make it to the finals, otherwise people are going to bring this up again.

Regarding unification:
"The mission of USA Taekwondo shall be to enable United States athletes to achieve sustained competitive excellence and promote and grow the sport of taekwondo in the United States"
Not much room in that mission statement for anything other than promoting the Olympic Sport of Tekwondo.
Regarding Nia vs DianA (not E), I think everyone knows that it was rigged against Nia from the beginning so that USAT could get the 3 sibling story.
Regarding Charley being overlooked, I am hoping that it works to her benefit to not be so much in the media spotlight.

2012 in London is only having TKD as a sport last time I check. There is a petition to get Karate and Judo back but haven't heard too much on it.

I make no comment on the selection process. My statement was simply that I would root for a fellow countrymen/woman as a sense of national pride. I see your point about your feelings regarding the fairness of the process & your current sentiment regarding cheering for someone you think didn't desreve to be there. 1-Now did she cheat? 2-Did the judges cheat? 3-Was it just poor judging? If it is #1, I can see your point. If it was 2 or 3 or something else, then I personally would cheer for my country.
