like when i go to tournaments some of the other schools think they are way better then other people... or they will be saying like come to our school and you be able to do it in no time... or something like that... and like when my master goes to say hello to the other students you are suposed to bow and give him a hand shake and all that right?? yeah but some of them just stay seated and just wave to him and sit back like im to cool for school! lol .. so whats with that hu?

i would give all the respect to their master if they were my own no matter what.. and this one master she just walked passed us and didn't even say hi when we were at this school and we were both doing a demo she just rolled her eyes and walked away! .. and i would respect all the students to and treat them like if they were from my school because we are all fans of the art.. so do you see that in tournaments or in demos? or do some people in your school do it ??

Kickin, many people these days do have proper grammar!  Not to mention proper discipline and respect from a culture 1/2 way around the world!  I was fortunate to remember Jhon Rhee and his commercials.  I learned from Karate Senseis that beat respect into you.  Yes I do mean beat!  You didn't stand up fast enough, your foot was swept and you crashed to the floor...

You obviously understand respect and bowing is common form of greeting in the East!  Us stupid westerners can not decide what language we should speak.  I doubt we will master the subtleties of Eastern Traditions...

Yes I do agree with you, it is a matter of showing respect where respect is due. A minimum of etiquette is to be expected from anyone let alone a Martial art Practitioner.

Yeah, people have no manners or courtesy these days (does that make me sound old)?!

That's terrible, though- I would never disrespect another school. We can all learn from each other and can all learn from other martial arts, even if tae kwon-do is our favourite!

ha ha ha. Masters did the same when i was coming up. In my day you could not even put you hand out to the master. i remember one master spanking students in the 1998 nationals but hey masters will be masters. I have to say this if i talk to some guys other student i could be accused of soliciting to that student i leave them a lone. but if they say hi, i do the same. But i bow to all ranks higher then me. those who dont bow to me or the flags i don't even wont to look their way.

I would not bow to random masters.  They're not my masters.  If I print up a KyleKwanDo certificate of grandmastery for myself does that mean everyone should bow to me?  Doesn't work that way, respect needs to be earned.

Common courtesy, on the other hand, is like hotel breath mints.  It sounds like you think the other school's students are being discourteous.  If they all act like that, then you can make inferences about how the school's instructor and senior students act.  Probably not a school I'd want to be in.  But it's hard to tell because you're mixing up judgement of courtesy with respect.
