 Hi im new to TKD but just out of curiosity i just wanted to know what the korean characters on the far left of the five tenets translated to. Can anyone help? Thanks

That is not Korean, it is Chinese & the characters are caligraphy of Gen Choi, a principal founder of TKD, who was also an award winning caligrapher. It was him that came up with the name TKD & the tenets.

from right top to bottom, it says tae-kwon-do jung-sin (mentality of taekwondo)
middle top to bottom, ye-ui (courtesy), yum-chi (integrity), eu-jee (perservarance).
left top to bottom, geuk-gi (self control), back-jul-bool-gool (indominable spirit).
even though korean had their own language to speak, we didn't have our own alphabets, so we used to write with chinese, but with korean pronounciation. a lot of korean vocabulary has its meaning based on chinese characters, like some english words have its roots in latin.
