Mr. Miles or Mr. Peter is how I am usually addressed in class by the adults and kids, respectively.  We say "Mr. XXXXXX or Ms. XXXXX" to all the adults, and, frankly, to the kids most of the time.

My Master Instructor and my Grandmaster call me "Chief Master Eisenhart," and I call them "Grandmaster Smith," and "Sr. Grandmaster Sell."  I have known my original teacher for 32 years, and I would use his full name when introducing him, but I never have, and never would call him by his first name.   If I quit Taekwondo, and did'nt see him for 50 years, upon meeting in the street or at a super market, I would still bow respectfully, and call him Grandmaster Smith or "sir."

My students call me "Chief Master Eisenhart" or "sir."  I require my students to address all Black Belts by their last name (or "sir" / "ma'am) in the Dojang as well as out, even if they are friends.  As long as they are a student of Taekwondo, they are in a transitional phase, and they are constantly reminded of who their seniors are, and they are to follow their advice and guidance in all matters.  The student has only a few years to reach the Black Belt, then they may address fellow black belts by their first name outside of the Dojang, but inside the Dojang, Black Belts are addressed by their last name, whether they are higher or lower rank than you.  I address my 1st through 5th Dan Black Belts by their last name only.

Students and Black Belts at my school always refer to the Sabeom, all Masters and Grandmasters by their title and last name 24/7.

Master Eisenhart & I have the same Sr. Grandmaster. He is a very formal person as an instructor. The hardest thing I had to get used to was that, for him, it goes both ways. While he expects us to call by his name & title, he also does the same for us. He has never called me by my first name. I take it as a sign of respect from him to me as well.

Black belts in my class are refered to as Mr/Mrs/Mrs/Ms, though some students still call them by their first names at times. It doesnt worry me too much, except at formal occasions when things need to be done by the book

One question, what title do you give a Poom Black Belt, the usual title bestowed on young girls is Miss and that's fine but young boys get master, which could be confusing.

Will have a couple of 'young masters' next year, this thread has made me wonder what their title should be. Any suggestions?
