Great question Kickin! I have never admired celebrities. They are just one of the extremely luck people to be who they are and where they are. Good for them. But the people I admire are people like teachers, the militrary, nurses, police officers, firemen, truckers... People that let there work speak for them. The people who do a thankless job but have a huge impact on people during often trying times.
Those are my heroes...

I agree with you Sarge. I like to watch movies and TV and their are certain actors that I like more then others but it's not like I strive to be them.

Yeah, celebrities....everyone and their mother is a celebrity these days! I look up to Chuck Norris because Chuck Norris does not read books- he stares them down until he gets the information he wants! Seriously, I really only admire the famous martial arts people for their abilities and I don't really consider any of them role models. Saying that, though- I want to be just like Jean Claude Van Damme when I grow up!

Chuck Liddell cause he's got an iron chin and a sledge hammer right hand and when I met him he seemed like just a regular guy (who could beat the crap out you) Very kind to my wife and I when we met him especially since my wife was sitting in his chair . As far as non fighting celebrities Steve McQueen and John Wayne because to me they embodied the American spirit. That might sound really corny now but where and when I come from that means something. Now that I'm thinking about it I think I'm going make my boy sit through an afternoon True Grit, The Green Berets, and The Undefeated. Maybe we'll top it off with Bullitt or The Great Escape. Thanx Kickin this is going to be a good afternoon of movies!!

Tony Jaa from Ong Bak. But I don't see him as a hero in anyway, I admire his talents and want to strive to achieve similar goals.

Most of the time celebritys deal with the inspiration of a person. For example if a little boy finds Martial arts interesting and all of the sudden he sees a movie about it or hears a song about it he might be inspired by the celebrity or composer. I know this because if it wasnt for Bruce Lee i probably would have never started.

I have numerous heroes, both celebrity and non celebrity. Heroes are not always the very best of roll models, but generally embody something that inspires others.
Elvis Presley has long been a hero of mine. He was a fine musician, a man who went from rags to riches and had a generous spirit. He was known to be a very good martial artist and he had a genuine love of the martial arts. He also disliked that some of his fellow martial artists used his name as a promotion tool. One individual invited him to a demonstration and Presley was thrilled until he got there and saw a huge banner reading, 'appearing live, Elvis Presley', at which point refused to go on stage and may have left. He was an eighth degree blackbelt, though he was skipped ahead from fourth to sixth. Still, all who knew him in karate said that he was the genuine article. Not a Bruce Lee or a Chuck Noris, but a very competent fighter.
On the other hand, Presley's personal life was riddled with poor choices and heeding of less than healthy advice from others. He struggled his fame to a great degree and developed a dependency on prescription drugs that contributed to his early death. Many people remember him as an obese caricature.
But he touched so many people in positive ways. He opened the doors for black musicians simply by being the white guy to get up and sing R&B, gospel and blues without making the music white. He opened the door for the British blues rock bands that came later. In that respect, he really was the king.
I will remember him fondly, as his music has been a part of my life for four decades now. I still remember seeing him televised, live via satelite in 1973. I was just a six year old kid, but it was a show I'll never forget.
In the end, he was just a regular guy underneath it all, with problems and faults, just like the rest of us, only these were magnified by his unheard fame.
Just my thoughts.
Daniel

I also have many heros that are both celebrity and non-celebrity. The celebrity hero would be Chuck Norris and the non-celebrity heroes would be those that give back to the community through sweat, monetary, etc. without expecting a thank you for it (I mean those that donate time to help those in disasters, crisis, etc).
