I am not a ITF certifed instructor so when I am at a open competition I depend on the ITF instructor to tell me yes to no and the last one did tell me not to judge him on where he started and stoped at.  I do know the one we do in our class do start and stop at the same spot but we only do a few of them to help us judge these forms.  So any input would help me referee these ITF forms better.  Thanks for all your info and will push this for not on in compeition with ITF forms.

One of the points to observe for accuracy in performing ITF patterns is for it to start and stop on the same spot.

Empirically it is hard to prove due to relationships between various stances, but accomplished practitioners can and do make them start and stop on or near the same spot when done correctly. When judging at some ITF competitions this is one of the things I looked at.

That being said, emiracly there is an issue with Dan Gun. If all stances are done properly  and identicaly with ball of the foot pivots it ends up abbout 1 of yur foot lengths behind where it starts.

Well, if you let us know who he is, between TK-D myself and MSB 1964 we probably know the guy, or his instructor and we can get him straightened out:)
