I am not sure if its just me or if there is anything that can be done but i do find i sweat a great deal in classes. Its not because i am unfit, i run 3-4 miles daily, lift weights etc and dont get tired in class but i do tend to sweat a lot.

Does anyone know of anything that can be done (i DO use deodorant!!). I have to use a towel quite a lot just to wipe down my face and back!

I'm the same. I get quite embarassed in class sometimes when we stretch lying on our backs and i leave a great big TAGB Tae Kwon-Do print on the floor in sweat. No1 else sweats my age it just seems to be me.
It's especially my back and face. I begin to wonder weather i have some form of sweating problem....i wud like to hear replies for this thread also :)

I am the same way.  I really think that this is a result from our training folks.  If you are well hydrated and in great shape, your body becomes very efficient and sweating is just one of things that shows how efficient you are.  All I have to is jog or warm up for 5 minutes and I am glistening.  10 minutes and I am a water fall!

I'm not is super shape but I'm well know for sweating like there is no tomorrow.  I've done everything from rolling up my jacket sleeves and even wearing a just t-shirt during summer classes.  I use it to my advantage during self-defense and what we call the "square"(One person in the middle and a person on each side and you don't know what type of an attack is coming or from where) it's funny when people grab my wrist and uncovered forearms because they slide right off.

Same here, 10 minutes in and I'm glistening, even in a fairly cool room.  I figured early on in my training it was just due to lack of fitness, but going on two years later, it hasn't subsided.  Funny thing is I can not be particularly winded, but still be sweating like no tomorrow.

Oh well.  Our instructors say we should all be working up a sweat during class.

i'm pretty sensitive to humidity (i can tell if it's going to rain or not by how much i sweat during the day.  lol), and i get pretty warm and sometimes start sweating in the changing room!  haha.  but i also cool down pretty quickly.  takes me about 3 minutes into class before i'm covered in sweat, but after that, i don't sweat as much.  and throughout the class, i'm mostly just glistening, not much additional sweat dripping off from my face.

I copied this from my PT certification textbook for you!

"The reason for profuse sweating is that body core temperature becomes significantly elevated by the increase in metabolic heat production during exercise.

In response to an elevated body core temperature, the brain signals the body to dissipate the excess heat as rapidly as possible. Eccrine sweat glands are then activated, and fluid is transported to the skin so that it can evaporate and create a cooling effect. Rather than indicating a lack of conditioning, sweat dripping off the body may be more indicative of the fact that the humidity of the environment is so high that sweat can't evaporate. All factors considered, this is not an ideal situation, because it may mean that the body is not being effectively cooled via evaporation. On the other hand, profuse sweating can also be a sign of being relatively fit, since one of the adaptations to consistent exercise training is that individuals will sweat more and sweat sooner so that their bodies don't store extra heat."

Just beware if your sweat smells like amonia.

"Ammonia (chemical term is NH3) is a nitrogen breakdown product of amino acids in the body. Amino acids are the building blocks to make proteins in the body. If your body turn to breaking down amino acids for energy (instead of using carbohydrate and/or fat), the nitrogen atom is chemically stripped of the amino acid molecule (which is then converted to glucose fuel) and processes the nitrogen in the kidneys and forms urea for excretion. If your kidneys cannot handle the load of urea, the nitrogen is excreted in your sweat as ammonia.

How can I prevent the smell?
The best way is to be sure you have enough carbohydrate fuel for your exercise. Those who "eliminate" carbs from their diet are setting themselves up for "ammonia sweat." A good pre-workout meal usually does the trick. Also be sure to drink for thirst; adequate fluid intake makes excretion easier.

So the next time you smell ammonia, don’t worry that all your muscle protein is breaking down or that you are doomed to have smelly sweat forever. Look at what you eat before you exercise, add more carbs and fat, and when you finish exercising, have some carbs and fat to replenish what you've used and some protein to help replace the amino acids used for energy and to make your sweat smelly!

That's great info KickChick!

I tend to rate my class by how much we sweat.  At one dojang I taught at, the mirrors would get fogged over but our current space does not have the mirrors. :(

Wow, now I feel sorry for the gas attendent when I fill my car up with gas right after class. I wish my Dojang had a shower, but I use my gf's before my drive home.
