free downloads...  government says it's a form of stealing, but i say it's a form of "beating the system".
i do feel bad that some actors have to live in a crappy $6million house instead of a decent $10million house...

Have you ever read the credits that roll after a movie finishes?  There are a whole lot more than multi-million dollar actors that make a few pennies off of every movie ticket you purchase.

Do you think that makeup artists, writers, editors, mixers, gaffers, camera operators, boom operators, designers, riggers, photographers, animators, artists, builders, painters etc etc etc, literally hundreds of people go into the making of a movie.  Do you think they are all multi millionaires?  That is rather naive of you.

Let me tell you, the Movie Star, typically gets paid upfront regardless of how a movie actually performs at the box office.  Will Smith will get $20M for a movie wether you steal it or if you by a $10 ticket.  He has already been paid long before the movie found it's way to the internet.  So your stealing it does nothing to hurt him outside of some residual payments.

You sure do seem proud though of your stealing from all the behind the scene's crew members that made the movie possible.  Congratulations to you and thank you for sharing your commitment to integrity as a tenant of TKD.

For your review, should you decide to steal "Hancock" for example, here is a list of all the people you are stealing from.  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0448157/fullcredits  I invite you to take a close look at it and really try to imagine how many of these people are living in 10 or even 6 million dollar homes.

who here thinks i wasn't joking about what i said in the previous post?

besides, all the crew gets paid by an hour with a set wage.  regardeless of how much the film makes, they still get paid certain amount of money per each hour they work.  it's the big names (actors, directors, producers, etc) that make more or less money depending on the success of the film.  real big shots often have set price like will smith does, because having that name in the movie often means huge success.  however, they still get paid certain percentage of the gross income that film generates on top of their salary.
take a look at Ali, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_Smith#Box_office_grosses  budget was $107mill, but the gross income was only $87 mill.  do you think crew didn't get paid for this movie?  or do you think they got paid minimum wage instead of their set wage because the movie took a loss?  i don't think so.
keanu reeves got an upfront salary of $20 mill for the matrix project, plus an additional 15% of the movies' gross revenue, and his total paycheck from all matrix series was $185 mill.  do you think crew got paid 6 times of their wages because movie was a success?
by getting free media on internet instead of paying, big names get affected the most, not the crew behind them.

fyi, i'm one of the people who rarely download anything from internet.  if i wasn't, i wouldn't have 300 something cd's and 200 something dvd's.

and don't get me started on teNETs of tkd if you don't know how to spell tenets in the first place.

I won't belabor the legalities illegal downloading; the very term is self explanatory.  With video rentals being readily available and inexpensive, I see no need.

Beside, to really get back at the system, so to speak, there would need to be a mass turning away from movie going period in order to really impact things; not likely to happen, as we enjoy our movies a bit too much.  Lets face it: we, the consumer, are equally to blame as we are, after all, a part of the system.  We have made it possible for sports figures and movie stars to earn obscene amounts of money.  Every sports fan who vociferously complains about athlete salaries contributes to the problem through ticket sales and pay per view.  And everyone who complains about the outlandish salaries of movie stars has all repeatedly spent money at the movies.

My girlfriend enjoys dinner and a movie.  I am at the movies pretty much every week.  Why should I benefit from illegal downloads when I contribute to the bloated salaries of movie stars and movie makers?  Twould be a bit hypocritical.

Anyhow, thats my take on the whole thing.  I know people do it.  I know people who do it.  I have heard all the arguements for and against.  I don't judge anyone who does so, but I don't recommend it either.

Just my opinion.

dinner and the movie is pretty much the only move i got.  haha.

i don't like renting movies anymore, because a lot of dvd's are scratched.  besides, having a future shop(canadian franchise electronic store) manager friend can get me dvd's for just little more than it costs to rent.  haha.

But those scratched rentals give you the opportunity to go into the video store decked out in your dobok and black belt, do a few tornado kicks in the store, garnering everyone's attention, and then giving you the intimidation factor for the clerks to find you that perfect copy of the movie.  Just get home and watch it before the cops arrive.
