The way of harmonized punching and kicking power?

No; essentially the new format for our TKD classes.  Our classes at Gaithersburg have combined the hapkido and taekwondo cirriculums into one.  It worked very well last night, so I'm excited about it!  Since our Frederick school has a separate hapkido class, he still is doing separate gradings for hapkido and Taekwondo.  My son, Connor will have his second class tonight.  This will be great for him, as he'll start off with the integrated classes.

Life is good!

How neat.  I was able to go to the adult class a few weeks back, (my childrens mother reappeared with out any notice, she lives in VT, we live in GA)I really like the class.  the most amazing part was how little pressure was required of move people.  Our GM was instructing and doing the walk through and making sure that we did it right and knew what we were doing and how easy ,if done wrong or right, it is to injure someone.

Yes, this is essentially how our school is run. We have separate grading, but the classes are impossible to tease apart Taekwondo from Hapkido. All the instructors are at least a 1st dan in both (usually one form is much higher rank than the other though). This works out excellent as an integrated approach to martial arts and self defense.

So far, I really like it.  Now that the first full week is come and gone, I am very pleased with it.  Much easier on the schedule too!

cool.  i think that approach would be very good for self defense.  since i started doing mma, i noticed a lot of techniques from other styles overlap with what i know from my self defenss techniques.

I would like to see more Taekwondo Dojang do this (provided the instructors get proper training, of course).  During the number of years that I was with the Jidokwan, many of the Korean Grandmasters that I worked with were thoroughly trained in Hapkido, and often wore the traditional uniform of such.  I was taught back then to integrate Hapkido into the Taekwondo curriculum, just as we do Hoshinsul, Yudo, Poomsae, Gyorugi, Kyukpa, and every other aspect that makes the Taekwondo a balanced fitness and self defense oriented Martial Art.

I am a firm believer that the term Taekwondo was chosen to encompass ALL of Korea's native Martial skills.  Some schools keep those curriculums separate and distinct (Hapkido, Subak, Tae kyeon, Hwarang-do, etc), but I do not believe that we have to remove it from our curriculum just because others want to make them a 'stand-alone' art.  I say keep it all together, and keep improving Taekwondo to be the best it can be!

By the way, I wonder how your program has been going now that it has been a while since you started combining things?

Happily, we now have a full schedule of hapkido and taekwondo.  Sadly, the combo class has disappeared.  Happily, we're all taking both classes.  Personally, I like both the separate classes as well as the combo.
