Ok here is my problem.

I'm not the healthiest kid out there and at 17 im sure thats expected lol.
I'm about 5'11 tall and i weigh about 13-14 stone(i think maybe more). I work at McDonalds so naturally im gunna eat fast food lol. I eat McDonalds at least 2 times a week(usually 3) but i also train for roughly 6 hours of Tae Kwon-Do a week along with walking to and from college and to and from tescos every saturday(dats a 25 minute walk each way).

I need some sort of advice on the amount i should be eating to keep my weight down and to also shed a few more pounds so im not as graceful as a brick in class lol. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Paul :)

Easy answer, avoid the fast foods at McDonalds.

Knowing that you were work there and will be eating Fast Food, make wise choices.  Eat as healthy as possible!  Plain old hamburger is better then a cheeseburger; a cheeseburger is healthier then a Big Mac!  Snack wraps w/ grilled chicken are healthier then w/ fried chicken.  Just because you work @ a fast food joint does not mean there are not mean you don't have healthy alternatives.  Avoid the soda!  Opt for water or milk instead.  Try to eat a diet that is 40% good, clean, complex carbohydrates//  40% protein, and 20% fat.  Eat as many different vegetables and fruit as you can get.  There is a great website, FitDay, where you can track your diet and exercise.  It will break down what you are eating into a nice little pie chart so you can see how your calories breakdown.  You can also enter your exercises and see how you are burning the calories that you take in.  Good luck!

narc has a good point.  it will be hard not to eat while working at mcdonald, but you can still choose to eat "healthy".  what you can try is brining your own sandwich or snack.  with some food in your stomach, it would be easier to stay away from mcdonalds.

Many moons ago, I too worked at a Fast Food Restaurant.  Just seeing how to clean out the "grease trap" caused me to stop eating there!

If you have to eat there, try what I suggested and just go w/ a straight hamburger.  Bring a whole wheat bun and add as much lettuce and tomato as you can.  Unless you use Mayo, mustard and Ketchup are not going to kill you (though Ketchup has a ton of added sugar).  You can even do a double burger and not be too bad off!  It's the french fries, dressings, special sauce, apple pies, etc. that will kill you.  Mind you I am not stating that you should eat fried hamburgers daily, but a couple times a week should not break the belt loops.

Wow, FITDay is really amazing. Thanks for pointing it out! I've been trying to do that by hand for a long time, and was getting ready to program my own web application to do it. Now I don't have to.

if you are gonna eat a burger, load it with onions.  onions are known to get rid of cholesterol deposits in your artery.  or at least that's what i heard.  lol.  i heard it somewhere that chinese people have less heart problems even though they eat a lot of greasy food.

Two things:

(1) Be careful of the fitday site since the preset values for things are different from actual values.

(2) Onions are great! The smaller you cut them, the better. Let them sit for 10 minutes after cutting before you cook them for the best benefits.

Another great site for tracking fitness and nutrition is SparkPeople. (www.sparkpeople.com) I just joined it and it's been really helpful.

Oh yeah, I do like SparkPeople from a first glance. It seems to have a bigger selection of preset foods. I'll probably be entering a lot of my own anyway...
