I am wondering the differences between ITF and WTF..... Thank you

Well we practice different patterns and we emphasize on different things. But overall, the basic techniques are the same. Some dojangs emphasize on control and some emphasize a lot on cardio and sparring in both ITF and WTF circles. WTF is the bigger organization since they are the ones who organize the olympic tourneys.

ITF and WTF are the two main tae kwon do associations. The two styles are actually slightly different.
ITF-International Taekwondo Federation. Considered the original and therefore "traditional" (please notice the quatation marks). ITF uses the original forms. ITF, generally, is more like karate than WTF due to a more balanced use of hands and feet while incorporating various Chinese martial arts kicks. The curriculum often teaches use of varous weapons, typically the bo, board breaking, sparring, etc.
WTF-World Taekwondo Federation. This is what you see in the Olympics, known as Olympic style tae kwon do. Generally, WTF focuses more heavily on kicking, but they still learn the use of hands. Sparring is almost always full contact. They have forms that are very similar but are different to ITF. WTF is a modern art and ITF is the old style of TKD.
It all depend on what you want. Do you want the DVD or the VHS?

If you want, you can read some history about Taekwondo beginnings, in Korea, Post Japanese occupation. The short version is that General Choi, along with the Korean Martial arts instructors of the time wanted to organize a unified Korean Martial art, which they did - Taekwondo. For what ever reason, General Choi left Korea and moved to Canada to run the ITF while Korea created the WTF.
You can not really call ITF or WTF the original or "real" Taekwondo, because they started from the same place before splitting. Its important to understand that the WTF is a SPORT organization, it is the recognized sport organization for Taekwondo by the IOC. (international olympic committiee) The Kukkiwon is the World Taekwondo Headquarters and is responsible for Forms, basics, sparring, curriculum development, instructor training, the Martial Art side of Taekwondo, rather then the Sport. It is an independent organization from the WTF. So really, it is more accurate to stay you are a "KUkki-Taekwondo" practitioner, then a WTF practitioner, but saying WTF is easier an everyone knows what you mean. The ITF is pretty much unchanged from General Choi's vision, however after he passed away it split into 3 or more organizations. Forms are more emphasized, and the sparring is different then WTF. I am sure there are some ITF people on the site who can give you a better idea of what the sparring is like compared to WTF - Olympic style, but I believe they stop to call the points, where as in WTF the scoring is continuous. gw

bluewave pretty much covered it. WTF is a tournament committee, not a style. they don't provide any patterns or curriculums, they just provide the rules for sparring. at u of m, we follow kukkiwon curriculums, and we dont' necessarily do WTF sparring. choco and i practice both WTF sparring and ITF sparring. WTF, because that's the tournaments that we mainly go for, and ITF, because it feels good to get kicked without any chest protectors on...

Supposedly the Kukkiwon has several sets of rules. WTF sparring is only one of those sets. I'd like to see what those other sets are like.

We follow the patterns that WTF would use for competition, and some of the sparring at times. Other than that, there is no actual curriculum that the WTF has. The only thing that unifies WTF schools is the fighting rules they follow, and forms. Even then, some WTF schools use Palgwe patterns instead of Tae Geuk, which we use. We do our own thing Kev. That's what makes it fun. And yes, we do ITF because it is fun to hit people without much protection. It is also fun to punch people. Seriously though, we like tournaments, but in the end, we train for life. Since we have two hands, generally, we fight with them too.

One kick you don;t see in WTF as much would be the roundhouse with ball of the foot. Also, twist kick is not as prevalent. I think it's really up to the practitioner.
