Does anyone fast as a regular part of their training?

My master encourages it and fasts the last 3 days of every month.  We have to do a 3 day fast two weeks before every black belt test.

Frankly, I don't like it and don't think it's a good practice.

Anyone else heard of this regimen?

we used to do it in korea.  it was only for little over a day though.  my master held in-school black belt testing before we were allowed to go test at kukkiwon, and for that in-school test, we had to get together on saturday afternoon (we used to have school till noon on saturdays in korea).  and we train for 2 hours, break for 30 min, train for 2 hours, break for 30 min, and so on.  we had our test at noon.  ususally, there would be about 5 ppl who will be testing at kukkiwon, and another 20 black belts who just show up for support.  the in-house test would last anywhere between 3-4 hours, followed by dinner.  since we spent the last 24 hours training on empty stomach, we really had to focus during the testing.  everybody made mistakes, but it was expected.  and we "passed" as long as we stayed and went through the test regardless of how crappy we did.  between 1990 and 1997 (the period when i got my black belt and left korea), only 4 people gave up before or during the test.  i only lasted the whole thing, because i knew free dinner was coming up.

haha!  always a good incentive.

my sister fasts, she does it because it "gets rid of the toxins in your body."  she says her body feels better when she's done with it.  there's some sort of recipe like 3 gallons of water with some lemon juice and maple sugar that she drinks in the 3 days, as well as any additional water.

i've never tried it.  maybe i should to see if it makes me feel better like the experience my sister has.

I fast occassionally for spiritual reasons, but I've never done so for training purposes.  I try to maintain a healthy diet and eating habbits.

I fasted during the 30hr famine. The last time I did it, it was good since I had to lose some weight to make weight class for one of my tournaments.

Edit: Then again, the making weight wasn't the main reason why I fasted. It was for the starving children out there.
