i recently went to the German Open in Hamburg, Germany with the AAU National Team, and i came back so disappointed. instead of having regular chest protectors and corner judges, they had ELECTRONIC HOGUS! e-hogus are hogus that has sensors in the pad, and the power meter is set differently for each division. you may like the e-hogus before u fight but you will end up hating it because its not that easy to score a point with your fighting style. everyone had to change their game, to a punch (yes u get a point for a punch) and cut kick game basically. you can still receive points for other kicks but it is difficult. the head kicks were determined by 2 corner judges, and they didnt score that well. im just hoping the e-hogus wont last...

i didn't know that about them, i thought they seemed like a good idea.  i still think they're cool and that you can adjust the power meter.  i don't think i'll ever have the opportunity to use one, but good to know

One of my students said the same thing - (he went to the German Open on the AAU team as well), He felt the E-hogus turned the match into a slug fest, much less technical.

hopefully they improve the technology, or they don't use them.   My understanding is that they will not be used at the Bejing Olympics because they WTF does not feel they are reliable enough yet.
