As much as I want to see Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh in an action-packed adventure movie, this third MUMMY film is going to have to prove its worth. Stephen Sommers’ franchise has never been seen as anything more than a lightweight INDIANA JONES. Director Rob Cohen, who replaces Sommers, has a miserable track record of making highly disposable mainstream action films like STEALTH, the kind of fluff that ardent Asian action movie fans typically despise. It also has Asian-American actor Russell Wong co-starring, which doesn’t bode well when you consider that virtually everything he has appeared in since THE JOY LUCK CLUB has been a failure. On a positive note, the multi-national stunt crew is highly skilled and if given the chance might at least rescue the action scenes from contributing to another forgettable Hollywood actioner.
