Just thought to say Hello
Posted On 10/05/2008 18:51:20 by Hannigan

I just found the site and I thought to log in and see what is going on here.  Presently I am a Red Belt, Black Tip, with hopes of pretesting for black belt this Feb.

I have been a Martial Artist for close to 15 years, with only the last 2 being Taekwondo training.  The bulk of my training was Shaolin Kempo (3rd Dan), and Kempo Karate.  I have only been part of the Taekwondo family for the last 2 years and I think I finally a school that is meant for me.

Before I started Taekwondo training I admit I was not the biggest fan of TKD.  I meet a few people at open competitions and beat them fairly easily since they were not used to hand strikes, but now I have a completely diffrent understand of Taekwondo, and honestly still have issues with TKD specific sparring rules but I am adapting.

When my wife and I first met I started teaching her self defense, however she soon took on too many of my habits, so we signed up for TKD classes to give her diversity in training.  I admit at that point in time I had no intentions on persuing yet another rank system, however it just sort of happened.  Presently we train at 4ish dojans within our school depending on the week with a total of 8 to 9 regular classes a week.  Thankfully we started our own business and we have lots of time for each other, TKD classes, group practice and individual practice and workouts.

Aside from Taekwondo I also practice Reiki and other Energy Healing systems and follow more spirituality focused paths.

welcome to tkdspace!  funny you mentioned tkd people not being used to hand techniques.  i sparr with so many different rules (kickboxing, karate, jiujutsu, and both WTF and ITF tkd), certain things doesn't come all that naturally.  for instance, when i'm doing kickboxing, i have to get kicked in the leg few times before i start throwing low kicks, and i have to get few warnings before i stop throwing punches in WTF sparring.

It's wonderful that you've had other training in the other arts.  It makes you well rounded.
