Well, I took the gold in board break and placed fourth in sparring and forms out of five. I had fun even though sparring got a little frustating, more on that later. It was great to meet up with some of the people I had competed in last year and talk with some of the masters. Sadly my nephew came down with a flu bug that was going on around his school, he is doing better by my sister didn't want him to get worse and stayed home.
My board break was awesome if I say so myself. I was the only one in the men's division to go throw all my boards on the first try and also had the fastest set up time. The judges commented me on that speed. My other competitors were trying fancy kicks and they seem to go with more style then power. I did a three board break with a reverse knife hand into a knife hand into forward palm strike. I sent my palm strike board flying onto the stage of the gym we were at about 10 feet from where I was.
In forms I didn't know what happened, I thought I did well on my form (not gold, he did awesome job) but accept what the judges had to say. I was the first to go and don't know if that hurt me but I did the best I could do.
In sparring, I got a little frustated and I wasn't the only one. Since there was only five people in our divison they have gave three of us bye- lost my first match 2 to 1 since the judges didn't see my stikes, ok and the other guy had one good shot that caught me but the judges scored a hand strike to head even though it was talked about twice that they were illegal. The second match, I almost lost my cool, four punches and kicks to my back, nothing called illegal and some points awared, finally time was called and I lost 4 to 3. I was disappointed by the inconsentacy of the judges during the sparring, some of them had never judge sparring before. Most of us that were competing were trying to figure out what was going on. I think that having judges from a different school was not the best since their students were the ones winning at least in my divison. at the end of match and some of the others in my division the judges were getting booed, not what I wanted, but they were confused as well. I was happy that I got new competition and would have loved to have longer matches but just minus the judges, Im glad I kept my temper undercontrol, in high school was well known for exploding at refs (even knocked one out) and if I was still of that mind set I would have made the Cuba thing like like child's play. But I have since matured and know that it's only a match and only a medal there will be other times.
I'm happy with how I did and now back to getting more into shap and work hard for my next test next month.
Thanks for everyone for their support.
