In Theaters - 2008
Between filming My BLUEBERRY NIGHTS and THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI, Hong Kong’s preeminent art house darling, Wong Kar-wai, has found time to put together a completely revised version of his 1994 wuxia masterpiece ASHES OF TIME. This idea certainly isn’t new with many filmmakers such as George Lucas and Walter Hill revisiting past works in an effort to better realize their original visions. It’s a process that is often met with mixed responses from fans, many of whom remained attached to the original work. How Wong’s new version will be received by Hong Kong movie fans remains to be seen but just having the spotlight turned back on his sole martial arts movie, with the potential for a limited theatrical release in some territories is reason to get excited. Sony Pictures has picked up the title for U.S. release in 2008.
