An Embarassing loss. (again)
Posted On 08/14/2008 11:21:25 by Simon_Booth
Ok! I deleted my first post because I had made a complete hash up of explaining, well, everything.

On sunday I entered a mixed martial arts competition, though it was mainly kickboxing and a few karate places, with a few MMA specific ones. Long story short I got beaten easily; completly overwhelmed, especially by the Kickboxers punches. though as I said before, they had just under a couple of stone weight advantage, more experience, and were fighting on their terms (as a side note- is there a definition of semi contact? I dont think they get it, though they were going easy on me- nothing broken!).

The most unfortunate side effect was a black eye (2 actually), which then of course leads not only to being eyed up as a mugger by most of the general public, but being asked to recall the whole debacle by everybody you know and run into for the next week.

Though quitting never really occurred to me; I really did just keep getting up. I dont kick like a muel; but damned if i'm not as stubborn as one!

The whole thing just bought be back down to earth (not so much as with a thud as with being piledrived off a second story balcony); I am half way to blackbelt, NOT. No; I have a lot further to go than that... So I had better get moving fast!

Hah! cheers all. It has done some good for my sparring though; I seem to hold bach a bit less with the power, I just dont have that killer instinct; Too nice!  Suppose there are worse character traits to have though, like a lack of modesty . I think I'll leave it a bit before entering again though, I need to get a lot better at dealing with those close range punches. Even Itf isnt brilliant for that as most people move out after a few punches.

its ok... we all have to lose to make the win more better ...lol i want to go into mma but i can never find a place near by .... but look at it as a experience not a loss cause you won something from it ... well i dont really know what but every time i lose ( witch is a lot) im still happy and look at the bright side ... like making new friends or just a wake up call that i need to train harder ..lol hope you still try .. and be careful!

At least you had a matching pair - blackeyes that is! Well done for giving it a go though. Each experience is something to learn from!

lol cheers mate; yes, I am actually pretty pleased with myself (read smug) that I had the guts (/ stupidity- healthy mix of the 2!) to go for it. But I do intend to get better for next time; I think the biggest thing is to get better with my arms to make is less attractive to get in close and punch the hell out of me. So at the very least I've learnt something.

At the risk of sounding really patronising....well done for not giving up and carrying on! That sort of thing really puts me off. I know that in the past if I've had a particularly tough sparring session and been beaten up, it really makes me feel like cr@p! At least you had the guts to give the competition a go.
