Every third week in the month (Can you believe it is that late in July already?) we have a Judo/Self-Defense Week.
We could do a number of things this week from knife self-defense, grappling, strike self-defense, releases, etc..... But for the green belts and above, we also incorporate Judo into the week.
I enjoy it when we rendori (Judo sparring). I had a couple matches with a young man graduating college and a young man in high school. The both tossed me around a lot. But I was able to get some sweeps in there from time to time.
I am looking forward to having a guest instructor as well. His name is Master Reynolds. He, I believe, is in his 60's. He has such grace and patience. His does his rolls and break falls like a ninja: It is so graceful and fluid. He makes sure we are completely stretched out before starting. And from one who needs a lot of stretching, that is very appreciated. I have to miss one night this week because of work. I really hope it isn't the night He comes.
I am wondering how to wrap this toe for tonight....I broke off the toenail (or it is hanging by a thread) and I don't know if I can wear shoes when doing Judo. If we do some self-defense, I will be okay. It is a lot different using shoes for Taekwondo when I prefer going barefoot.
Blabbered enough for now.
Our school's website has some animations of some Judo throws if anyone is interested in taking a peek.
