So last night's class for me was an interesting challenge. I was asked to help teach low-green belts Won-Hyo, a form that I enjoyed learning. It was an interesting challenge for me because I had younger students then I've worked with before and it wasn't my most recent form, in the past I would teach the people right below me.
I did struggle in a few areas with explaining some parts of the form. I'm use to working with teenagers and the students I was working one was a father the other ones were 10 and under so I had to remember to go really slow and to just get the basics first. I'm still learning how to properly explain things so that everyone can understand. They got their forms down ok (one of their longer forms)and promised to go home and practice it.
Later on I assisted with teaching step sparring with the assisant instructor as well. This went a little better for me since there wasn't that many complex moves for what I was showing.
I hope to get more chances to help with running class, either warm-ups or running some drills. I have been learning a lot from it as well, picking apart the forms after originally learning them helps me work on proper techinque and become more proficent.
I also asked my instructor to help me train harder and push me so that I get into better shape and ready for tournements that are coming up soon. I competed last year and had a good time learning but now I want to go with knowledge to perform at my best. If I win, great, if not, as long as I did my best, I'll be happy. I hope to improve my sparring with better conditioning. It should be a great personal challenge for me.
