I'm back!!!!
Posted On 05/14/2008 16:32:06 by irishtkd

Well I finally have been getting back to my workouts!!!

A couple months back I switched my weight lifting to accomedate Taekwondo a little more. Before I was lifting heavy weights at a max of 10 reps. Now I have lightened up the weights by about an average of 10-15 pounds and increased my repetitions to 15-20. Plus to keep up a mild muscle gain I add 5-10 pounds before each rep.

At first it was really killin my energy, but I am finally getting used to it. I still run 3 days out of the week and practice my form and stretching(for all you new people stretching used to be a weakness of mine)

For the first time stretching is actually refreshing. It used to hurt. I would feel like I was gonna hurl it hurt so bad. But now I actually look forward to stretching @5:30 in the morning.

I have slowed down a little in my class participation because the last couple of tournaments have been a little depressing. Constantly I am told at tournaments not to kick hard in tournaments. I actually watched a buddy of mine amost get disqualified for kicking somebody to the head!!!! I always thought that a tournament was a time to show off all your hard work!!! We wear protection. We have head gear on. We have big old chest protectors. So what's the problem??

I have moved up the belts kinda slow. I want to be a real deal Black belt. But at the same being in my 30s I did feel like I was running out of time. I have been trying to find my own personal path in Taekwondo. Some people take TKD for mearly the "art form". Some people take TKD for the physical workout.

Well I take TKD to try to be the best martial artist I can. I have set some new goals. I look forward to teaching TKD to students down the road. I look forward to having my own school down the road. I think my personal experiances of dealing with a weakness of stretching and personal training is gonna help me down the road.

Anyway, I'm kinda proud of myself for working through my little energy proplem and get back to doing what I like to do.

So that's it....

Chuung Hyo everybody!!!!

That's a great philosophy: "to be the best martial artist I can." I love it! In the end that's what it's all really about, isn't it? Great post. You've got the right idea. Don't give up! Martial arts needs more people like you around.

Glad you have your head on... BTW  who doesn't like a good stretch @ 5AM.  all i can say is good for YOU.  Schools over for the short folks  memorial day week, then we'll be at the Gym 5 days a week, and at night class.

Sounds like you're turning out to be a well rounded martial artist to me, but then I'm just a beginner in the scheme of things. Like you say, you have to work you're own way through it and enjoy the journey

We all have energy issues, (especially me Im 41 this year) but you seem to have worked through yours OK...Its inspiring to read for me and Im sure the other newbies out there
