The Injury
Posted On 04/01/2008 14:33:34 by marc03
Alright, in case some of you have heard, on Feb 16th I tore my right gastrocnemius (calf muscle) training.  Back then the doctor thought about 6 weeks recovery time...I was cool with that...6 weeks no problem...well yesterday I went back in for another MRI since I was still having quite a bit of pain, and still unable to have any type of impact resistance on that leg.  The MRI still showed marked tearing across the entire muscle....To make this short, I'm out of training for this year and will be unable to compete until August at the earliest...

If you look at my pictures, you can see a nice pretty MRI of my calves...the one on the left is my injured leg.  The doctor said red wasn't a color he wanted to see!

Ouch - how frustrating. Least you have a pretty MRI scan to show for it. LOL. Chin up and take it easy.

dont worry youll be back in no time... meanwhile since you cant train do all the things you couldnt do because you were trainig ......its a blessing in disguise keep following the tournaments and size up your competition and get mentally ready for the work you have to do to catch up..

I just finished with physical therapy and our trainer said to do light streching and light floor drills with the younger kids...I guess there is a bright side, I will no longer be right leg dominate....People who are left leg dominate drive me nuts since it puts me out of my comfort zone when sparring

Man that must be painful. What are you doing for rehab? Since messing up my lower L-4 & 5 disk I have done yoga and it really helps. Keep your chin up! You will be back don't push it.

OMG - I'm so sorry for you
I completely understand how you must feel,
It was 3 years ago I had an op on my left knee, I wasn't training in TKD then, but was teaching gymnastics to children, I had 7 months off then just couldn't manage on the sprung floor.  They said I will probably need to have my right knee done too :-(  hoping to put that off for as long as poss!!
I understand you will be feeling frustrated at being given this news, however, take the time to recover, it's not worth pushing yourself too fast as in the long run you will do more damage that will take far longer to recover from!
Best wishes

Sorry to hear about your injury!  That must be painful!  Listen to what the doctor says and it should heal fine.
