getting frustrated!!!!
Posted On 03/24/2008 10:27:36 by taekwondojunkie

Im getting very irritated at some of the poeple on this site. Ya know there are a few different types of taekwondo, also different federations and ive learned that just because you do the same federation as someone else they may still be different because you also have root styles.

People need to quit worring about what type is better, arent we here on this site to express with other people how much we love taekwondo as a martial art and sport,

everyone does tkd for different reasons, great!!!! I here alot of stuff on this site that i dont agree with but ya know i keep it to myself. im not here to bash other peoples opinions about the martial art i love, besides im the only person i need to "impress"

Im just getting tired of forums and peoples comments on this is the right way  or thats not correct or true, thats where different styles, & federations come in.

Remember, just because it's not true or correct at your school or the federation you do doesn't mean that it isnt different at another school somewhere.

Agreed. I feel that sometimes (depending on who) when I talk to another martial artist about anything related to martial arts, it can lead to some arguments. It's like talking about Religion or politics.

However, I think as long as we all keep an open mind and take what works for us individually and let the other stuff go out the other ear, we can simply benefit from various different styles.

Arguments will never cease over who or what style has the best techniques. Thats been going on since the beginning of time. But we can certainly benefit from the various different style and techniques by keeping what we like and discarding what we don't like.  So I don't necessarily get worked up over it as I know some people do.

Scan, select, discard and move on.  You know what I mean?

Anyways, that's my two cents worth.

Until I came on this site I had NO idea as to the number of different schools/federations/organisations, you name it
It appears that everywhere teaches things differently.
It used to do my head in with people saying this was they way I learnt, this way is best etc
I'm happy to go with the flow
We are all learning TKD, we all have the same goals, let's just get on with it for heavens sake

yeah i agree with actinonimpulse. It maybe frustrating but you know what? It is better that someone says something about their opinions rather than bottle them all up inside and suddenly explode rudely on to the scene. I think what we need to do is create a climate where it is okay for us for us to disagree. We always have the tendency to just agree with what people say. If that's not your opinion then it's okay. You have a chance to say something. Besides, what's the worse than can happen? A dozen people "flame" you? So what? What matters is that your voice and our voices are heard.

I understand what you are saying and DO agree with you.  However, I think we also need to understand that there are times that people disagree with us and they have the right to voice their opinions as well.  It is how we learn and grow...seeing different perspectives on things.  I think the most important part is to be able to voice differing opinions with respect and care, not degrading someone for their thoughts.  Afterall, if no one ever questions our positions, how do we really know if we are growing and learning?

Please remember, that I definitely do agree with what you are saying...I just understand the need for more than one opinion and perspective.

I agree completely. Well said!
My favorite arguements are over English translations of Korean terms. "In my school it's called a high block." "Well in my school, it's called a face block." But we're talkin' about the same technique!!!!!!!

well said!!! i love diversity in tkd, its one of the cool things about this art..although some of us may take it a little to far ...someone texted me, i dont remember who, but what he said kind of gave me the idea that all the different styles and federations are born of the same family-TKD. That means we are all tkd cousins. And as we all know siblings bicker with each other..ha ha lol...

I agree taekwondojunkie but it happens on all forums.  People will always bicker about "that's not what I was taught".  Heck, in my own training I have learned to do an upward forearm block holding my arms in 3 different positions.  Only one Art told me "why" I held my arms a certain way.  I never worried about it much but since on Master took the time to explain why things were done, instead of just showing us how to do it, I felt a bit better about him as an instructor and about the Art.

Just keep doing what you have been doing here.  Let the nay-sayers have their time and prattle on.  It matters little to me what they say.  If someone says something contrary to my belief's I may question the basis for their belief and present the facts supporting mine.  I maybe persuaded to rethink my position (it has happened once or twice ) or I might not be.  But I certainly won't argue right and wrong...
