General

At one session of the striking class (MMA), I met a young man (I'll call him David). At 15 he seemed filled with something familiar. He had this intensity about fighting. He only trained with my BJJ teacher a few sessions, and had about two classes under his belt with the striking teacher. When I talked to him, he talked about his disdain for the high school soccer team. He felt they were cocky, and that he loved to go running past them during their practices, as if he was some... Yellow with stripes on
Posted On 10/29/2008 18:40:10 by Jinxi

So today, after what feels like a million hours of doing other stuff, I finally made training.

Got my new yellow belt with huge green stripe through the middle, and I even beat one of my fellow graders in a mini comp to see who got a new belt and who got a second-hand one.

I also learnt a new pattern tonight, Do-San. I love learning new things so this was a bit of a treat. I did have a weird confidence jitter though. Just after going through it all a couple of times, we went to... Read More

37 hours and counting
Posted On 10/28/2008 08:12:01 by Jinxi

In 37 hours time, I'll be training. And even though it's (literally) freezing outside, it'll be hard work and will probably hurt, I can't wait.

It's been two weeks since I could get to class because I've been working all over the country. In the 14 days between times, I'll have worked 114 hours with just two days off. I'm cream crackered.

My colleagues at the place I do most of my work know about my taekwondo. When I won the English champs back in March, the company newspap... Read More

Health & Fitness

Not too much has changed about my routine. I am focusing more on "power" rather than hypertrophy these days. I've replaced my vertical pull exercises with a routine to increase my endurance with pull ups and chin ups. I'm about to turn 27, and have been wanting to go into my late 20's with a bang. My goal is to main a record that I recnetly broke. Using a conservative estimate, I was able to just break 6:30 in the mile. I'm hoping I can find some time in the next c... Read More

Feeling the nerves
Posted On 10/09/2008 12:12:13 by Jinxi

Last night was my last Training session before my next grading on Saturday for my green tag (7th kup). It wasn't supposed to be: I'd been hoping to train tomorrow, but I have a work shift 200 miles away so I'll have to give it a miss.

The session went well - I'm happy enough with my linework although I wish my pattern (Dan Gun) was a bit crisper, and my Korean terminology was fairly good...

But now I'm starting to feel nervous. It's ridiculous, I know - physical harm is not a re... Read More
